I agree whole heartedly. I don't have the time or the inclination to spend on manual programming. Unless someone else takes over the support for CWClient server, my dialler will be a(nother) wonderful thing - sadly - consigned to the bin (along with my association with 18185 and my CPS provider)...0 -

It takes less than 15 minutes to program ALL the carrier and routing codes from the Heinz Table via a modem, see HERE.0 -
It's the webserver I'm having trouble with. Sometimes I can get as far as clicking on the router tables to load them, other times I can't even get as far as the server.digital0

I've manually programmed my V4 using a modem. Just create a new Dial-up Connection using the New Connection Wizard:
ISP: Orchid V4 Setup
Phone Number: V4 programming code
Username/Pwd: anything you like
Start the Dial-up connection
Using Heinz's programming codes or your own (see spreadsheet here) copy the required code and paste the code into the Dial box if different. Make sure you change the Wingdings2 * for a proper *
Press the Dial button
Press Cancel after you've heard the codes go through
Keep your spreadsheet up to date and copy cell / paste to Dial box as required. I've removed the Wingdings2 * symbols from my spreadsheet so that I don't have to edit the code in the Dial box (less chance of making a mistake).
More to follow.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I'm very hopeful that some clever variations made to that Excel file which another MSE-er has produced will eliminate the need to copy and paste programming strings to the dial box and will almost totally automate the whole process (allowing a double mouse click, at most, to send each Routing Rule as DTMF tones produced by the originating computer's dial-up modem to the 'telephone instrument side' of the Orchid V4 via a standard modem cable).
More to follow.
That's great Heinz. I'm really disappointed with the don't care attitude of Orchid who have sold the dialers, made their money and now seem to be saying "stuff you". They could easily have provided an alternative at very little cost. Anyway, it looks like the good people of MSE have come to the rescue again!

I take my hat off to you for coming up with a solution! Just one problem - we don't have a Windows computer (all Macs here!) and we don't have any modems (all broadband here). Thank you anyway. I hope a more universal solution can be devised to replace CWClient, I'll keep watch in that hope!0 -

I wouldnt be too worried about setting up the orchid by dialling strings of numbers, i was concerned when i heard the news about Cwclient.
But if you already have an orchid dialler configured already, then any changes to the dialling rules will be easy to change.
And even for those who buy an orchid dialler after cwclient is no more, it should be easy to dial in strings of numbers to set it up.0 -
After the end of Feb, how will one stop the dialler phoning home when it needs to - eg if it loses power and line connection?
My V4 is just line powered and occasionally the line goes down for one reason or another - not often, thank goodness. However, when it does, and the line returns, the V4 automatically phones home to reset the clock (I gather the routing details etc are not volatile).
Once or twice in the past, when it did this, the CW server modem was continuously busy and so, unbeknown to me at the time, the V4 kept redialling.
I know how to change the phone home number but is there another string to actually stop it phoning home at all - so it doesn't keep endlessly trying after the server has been disconnected and moved abroad...?
