Orchid V4, V4+ and Ranger 400 phone users - Discussion

Orchids don't automatically dial home after losing their time/day settings - the user has to force them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

That's very interesting. Right from the start (2004) mine has always phoned home whenever it was disconnected from the line - about 10 seconds after plugging back in again.
For a couple of years, I used to use that method after reprogramming, until someone pointed out that ***12#4567890*3 was better (and didn't lose the current time if the server modem was busy).
Do we have different types?

Mine, too, dials home after a disconnection and has done since I got it.
It has a "Billsaver" label rather than "Orchid" and could possibly be a variation, but I bought it from Orchid with the MSE 20% discount. Can't remember whether it was 2004 or 2005.0 -

Mine is from that era and does the same.0 -

You learn something new everyday! I have one of the newer types that doesn't automatically call home.
It would have been really helpful if it did - I can't believe Orchid removed this feature.0 -
Maybe it's software based, and a command can be sent that switches the feature on/off?0

I used to have this callback feature but then it stopped. I believe its a setting in the CWClient but not sure which one. Go into the product and then its either callback or managed. Maybe those who it currently works for can post what their setting is currently. Mine is unticked for both.0

Mine just has the Managed box ticked. The user guide says of these two boxes:Callback - If checked the end user will be called back and played an assigned voice file when the dialler first connects to the platform.Managed - If checked indicates that the product is managed. Not used for version 3 diallers. However, I cannot find a definition of what 'managed' actually means in this context.
It would be good if it turns out that unchecking the 'managed' box turns off the auto phone home feature, as otherwise the person who eventually takes over 01536 207810 could end up receiving occasional mysterious 'modem' calls from all over the country for years to come...!
And, if this theory is correct then one can manually programme the setting as follows (if one forgets to do it before 28 Feb):Set Non-managed Function - **# 0000 * 0 * 8V0 -
The V4 dialers I have installed if set to managed will call home after disconnection from the telephone line.
De-managed it will not call home
Manage/ de-manage commands......
De-manage **# 0000 * 0 * 8
Set Managed **# 0000 * 1 * 8
When I purchased my first V4 dialer back in 2004 a VERY helpful guy in Orchid, named Richard, supplied this info.
I normally leave mine set to De-managed0
