    Question for Heinz,

Remember some months ago we figured out how to send diverts to mobiles through primus and not BT who I pay line rental to?

Well the thing is now Im not sure if BT would be cheaper as Im getting lots of 1 minute or under calls, so thought I would try BT for a month and view the bill.

My question is how do I divert to my mobile using BT as the carrier and not primus. Do I put 1280? in somewhere?
Interesting question (to which I don't know the answer).

I have Penny Mobile 2 and have programmed a button on one of my phones to set up the divert as I leave the house. That sends the *21 string to divert to my mobile - and was set up just with just the 11 digits of my mobile's number as the 'divert to' location - so the divert goes out on Penny Mobile 2 and costs me 20p each time.

I know it's not possible to use the likes of 18185 as a prefix to that 'divert to' string but I don't know whether the same applies to the 1280 perefix.

It's got to be worth a try if your diverted calls are certain to be short though!

Bear in mind though that, as BT's call set-up fee is now 8p and with their per minute charges progresses in whole minute increments, anything over 59 seconds is likely to be cheaper on Penny Mobile 2.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I would like to thank Heinz for all the hard work in enabling us to get the best out of the Orchid products. I am sure that my dialler more than pays for itself every month.

I haven’t been using the Heinz program because I am not currently with BT although I plan to change to BT very soon.

I am endeavouring to get to grips with the manual programming of the V4 as even with BT I will require some calls to be routed differently than the Heinz program. To take my understanding of the necessary programming to the next level would it be possible to have a copy of the Heinz program in spreadsheet format.
  • I have an excel spreadsheet that I wrote for my mum when she used to do telephone work, I think I can use the core macros to run through a spreadsheet of settings and program up the V4 (with the use of a modem of course)

Firstly - has anyone already done this - I would hate to waste my time duplicating anyone elses work,

Secondly - would people here like a copy when (if) I manage to get it working.

Bear in mind that I do this for fun & my routing table is OK at the moment so it might not happen straight away.

Let me know if there is any interest

  • Thanks, I missed that the first time through - did they share the file? I can't seem to find it.

I agree whole heartedly. I don't have the time or the inclination to spend on manual programming. Unless someone else takes over the support for CWClient server, my dialler will be a(nother) wonderful thing - sadly - consigned to the bin (along with my association with 18185 and my CPS provider)...

Surely the major things won't change that much - Heinz tweaks are going to only affect a few calls at most for most people I would have thought once you have the basic prog in place. (i.e. its working now so why not leave it plugged in?)

At worst it will mis-route calls near the day/night swap over when daylight savings kicks in and out but this would be one code to type in every 6 months if you really wanted to be up to date.

I am more upset that as a long time user of orchid and recommended them to family and friends I have yet to have an email telling me of this service stopping and if it wasn't for a message on one of the threads here that emailed me I would have been blissfully unaware until it was too late :-(

Given that the diallers were sold with updating via CW client as part of the package, I'm amazed how accepting everyone is of Orchid's decision!

Absolutely. Orchid have been more than willing to accept the free publicity they have had on this site, more than happy to accept the free support that Ian (Heinz) has given to users, but clearly they feel no continuing obligation to their customers.

They signed up to post on the site, put up five messages in two days and then left when they didn't like the questions, in the manner of the boy taking home his football when the game was going against him.

As I have said before, CWClient is not the perfect programming tool, but it's better than nothing. However, Orchid are apparently not listening to any constructive offers that might keep CWClient available to their customers here, so we are just going to have to live without it. This isn't the package we thought we were buying, it's the package that Orchid have decided to give us now that they've got our money.

One final thought: this reseller in 'mainland Europe' who needs the CWClient server – how have their diallers been supported up until now?

I'm surprised that, considering how the dialler has been promoted by this site, Martin has not given us the benefit of his thoughts on our predicament.
