What are your services?
Do you pay line rental to BT and, if so, what call plan are you on?
Do you have a CPS calls provider?
Do you have a 18185 account?
If you click the HERE link in my signature below, you'll see roughly what I have in mind.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I think a big thanks to Orchid for providing the dialers into a market that is quite obviously not that economic! They have provided a public service for a long time now...
One way out of this might have been to charge for the CW client updating facility - so much per year etc. New purchasers could have signed a Direct Debit at the time of sale.
Of course, this could still be done (for existing and new users) and I hope Orchid have considered this option, and ruled it out consciously. Even 1000 users at, say, a modest £10 per year, would bring in £10,000pa. OK, it wouldn't cover the £90k(?) for ISDN30 in deepest Rutland but it might have funded other options...?

Phone Orchid as soon as your V4 arrives and ask for it to be allocated to the Heinz Program (the services you use will work perfectly well with that and all you'll have to do is connect up and force it home).
Then you'll have an operational program as your starting point and, as and when changes become necessary, you'll be able (simply, trust me) to manually program new Routing Rule(s).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. What a shame that CWClient will be no longer available from March.
I would like to thank Orchid Electronics for their fantastic product, which has helped me save many hundreds of pounds in bills since 2004 without too much thought. Although the news is disappointing, I would also like to thank Orchid for breaking it as soon as possible and for allowing its user base a few weeks to smooth out issues before the service is withdrawn. Also a big thank you to Heinz for helping all on MSE to use this product. It will still be usable, just more difficult to program any changes.
It is four years since I read the manual. Using CWClient was quite natural to me ... the only thing I had to look up was the "force home" code and I had written that on the back of my 2 dialers anyway.
I have always roughly followed Heinz' program but liked the flexibility of being able to make my own tweaks and to logon to CWClient & check they have been activated. For several months now (since late October when the clocks went back) I have been trying to update my dialers. I knew there was an issue with Orchid's lines so I kept trying every now an again. To be honest, I forgot what changes I had made to my routing scheme - it had been so long.
This evening, I tried to force the dialers home again ... nothing reflected on Orchid's "last contact" page. Silly me, I had somehow missed Heinz' post of 18/12/08 stating that we all need to update Orchid's "home" number by typing:
**#0000*01536207810*1 and hang up
Then force the dialer home with:
*** 12#4567890*3 and hang up (sometimes twice)
Finally it has picked up my routing changes from the past months. Although I now need to update it to reflect the 0870/0845 changes!
I pay line rental to BT and have CPS with Primus.
For simplicity's sake, do you think it is worth calling Orchid and getting my dialers switched to the Heinz Program - so at least I will be singing from the same hymn sheet as most of you when the plug gets pulled? My list of carriers is way different to the "normal" program due to years of tweaks - many of them long redundant.
I will log in to CWClient and take screen shots before it disappears, but would appreciate some guidance.
I guess I will have to fully read the manual ... in fact, make sure I have the latest manual as mine might well be out of date after 4+ years. In case of messing up manual programming, I hope it is possible to do a "factory reset" and start from afresh as without CWClient (or a pc-based replacement) there will be many opportunities to make a simple typo and mess the routing up.
