I was thinking about creating an easier way to program the dialler.
What if you had an old modem connected to the line. You could then use the dial command (ATD "Any numbers you like") to send commands to the dialler. It would be relatively simple to write a simple VisualBasic program to send serial commands to the modem and then write a visual front end to take care of the programming. That way we could have a visual front end (similar to CW Client (hopefully alot better!) that makes programming the device easy.
What do people think?
I think this is a superb idea, I'm no programmer myself, but I do know some & this to me appears very easy to do, you're just asking a modem to dial the manual keypresses.
Any VB programmers out there?

Lots! Some good some bad.0

According to a poster on uk.telecom newsgroup, manual programming is just not practicle in real world usage. Unless an automated solution can be found I think our diallers are going to become useless.0

There are currently 150 on the Heinz Tables, and sales over the last 6 months have averaged about 10 a month.
I know there are a few dedicated dialler fans on here, but, in reality there aren't that many of you!
However, the CW server knows exactly who has logged in, and when, so this must give them a pretty accurate indication of the installed base, whatever they say.
However, it looks as if they will not be swayed - a decision is a decision etc - so if some clever programmers can produce a means of programming the diallers from one's own pc, that would be brilliant.

My BT phone can send and receive text msgs when the V4 is not in line. However, when the V4 is connected I can send text msgs but only receive voice messages. Has anyone any idea how to fix this problem?0

Yes, Take the Orchid out of circuit. :-) Known problem, although some V4's don't have it. I think there was a PCB mod.0 -
I think a big thanks to Orchid for providing the dialers into a market that is quite obviously not that economic! They have provided a public service for a long time now, and certainly have given to me, more than I have given to them - allowing me to save a considerable amount of money and time on the complexity of the phone system.
Also a big thank you to Heinz, for providing all the info he has over time, I really hope we can sort out programming the devices before the end of Feb - I will be lost without a replacement for the cwclient feature.
I think in terms of devices that add to a families control over the phone system, this dialer / router has been the bees knees! If someone can make it simple and easy to understand - there is potentially a load of money to be made on this.0 -

Just a half thought!!
Didn't computers come with dialer software for dialing modems once, I never used the facility but remember something!! - couldn't we put the codes we need to send to the Dialer in as "people" in the address book and dial each code in turn??

HI,
I've downloaded & read the programming guide & routing table..
So to implement the latest changes 'One final update to the program - 16 January 2009'.. without phoning home all I have to do is enter the following 2 programme codes ?
Ý # # # 0845 # 3 553 # 15 #
Ý # # # 0870 # 3 533 # 16 #
I hope i've got this right & if so then its alot easier to do then i first thought...
..and I presume the table they show is the latest 'Heinz' table prior to the above update ?0 -

..and I presume the table they show is the latest 'Heinz' table prior to the above update ?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
