    There are odd bits and pieces - like:

    Bar 00979 (international Premium Rate);

    Program to route 01534 and 01481 (Jersey and Guernsey) via 18185 at all times (they're excluded from BT's inclusive packages);

    Consider using 18185's freephone or geographical gateway numbers for weekend calls to mobiles - 4p/minute instead of 6p/minute via the prefix.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    I have a query on that; apart from the price varying from 18185's Rates page compared to it's Mobile Rates page for UK weekend mobile calls! Does that reduced rate apply for BT landline customers? Where is it mentioned on their website - on the left of the Mobile rates page it mentions non-BT landline customers, and I'm a bit confused :o

    It may mention non-BT landline customers but the 0808 and 0208 gateway numbers work from BT landlines too!

  • If you use the override code 18185 you pay the main rates.

    If you use the 0800 access number you pay the alternative 'non BT/cable' rate.

    Not everyone can use the 18185 override code, as some telephone companies block it; on the other hand, (nearly) all landline users can use the 0800 access number.

    www.18185.co.uk do not know or care who you pay line rental to. You could be with, for example, Toucan and use 18185. The terminology www.18185.co.uk use is simply to differentiate between the tariffs.

    Finally, if you can use 18185 you can also use the 0800 access number. This way you have the greatest choice and can opt for using the service which provides the lower rate eg using the 0800 access number for weekend mobile calls rather than dialling 18185.

  • Hi All, Just a quick post to prevent everyone's imagination running wild.

    I would like to start by thanking Heinz for all his hard work on this forum, I am sure it is appreciated by all that use it, and to all MSE'ers for their custom over the past couple of years.

    In the last year or so end user dialler sales have been around 10 diallers a month, end user diallers sales and V4 type diallers account for less than 0.5% of our business in the UK. (We would be in real trouble if we did rely on end user dialler sales!!)

    Our commercial resellers in the UK now require more simple diallers, no time of day routing, no server. Given this we have decided that it is simply not viable to supply end users in the way we have been, this is a commercial decision, and I am sure given the figures above many of you will understand this.

    In response to some of the previous posts on this thread: Firstly, we moved office to Rutland over 2 years ago, and the server was left in the old office, the business in that office has not renewed the lease and the new tenants don't want the server in their building. The cost of installing in our new office has been quoted by BT at £90,000 (this is due to the distance from the local exchange, and the fact there is no fibre currently anywhere near the premises).

    So, I am sorry Lplates, we have not said that there is no ISDN in Rutland, but simply, in this case it does not make sense to relocate given the costs and sales. And the current 3 for 2 offer is to sell the last few V4 diallers we have available, no desperation about that, just clearing old stock. We will be providing a full manual programming guide for you this week, I will send a copy to Heinz and I am sure he will make it available here.

    We will not be making the server available to end users after it had been switched off, it is being moved to mainland Europe to support a reseller. The call platform was designed to use ISDN30, we have several installations worldwide, most have in excess of 50,000 connections a month, hence the requirement for multiple channels.

    In the meantime i would recommend users, take screen shots of their current tables, we will be providing a spreadsheet with the manual instructions so end users can fill their own tables in and keep a log of what the dialler is routing.

    Just thinking out loud here, but even with the server moving to Europe, couldn't we still make use of it, if Orchid were to set it up? It would mean an international call, but that won't exactly break the bank as we all know. Just a 5p 18185 connection charge & maybe 0.5p/1p per minute depending on location.

    If you take a screen shot of the Active routing table, there is an excel sheet available on the website Here
    you can then fill in the relevant details and keep a copy of your current table in the excel sheet and update it as and when you need to. We hope this helps.

    With regard to the server, it will not be available after the end of Feb.
    The server will be re-programmed to accept programming from the local country only i'm afraid, this will mean that diallers from the UK wouldn't be accepted by the server, this is to avoid any codes that are duplicated between countries.

    Is it possible to release the carrier and routing dropdown table of codes in excel or is there a way to capture this information? You know the long list of access codes when you press edit and then code.

    I doubt it. There are hundreds and many apply to Australia only.

    Anyway, with manual programming, you can make up your own Carriers and Routing Rules - and that'll be the only way to do it after 28-2-09.
