Can you swap the phone cables over?

Some are wired US standard and not UK.

    Just a thought.

    Also do you have ADSL?

If so have you fitted the filters.

Thanks for your input. Have tried the existing cables and the new ones.

ADSL filters are exactly as before, and the new phone is physically sited where the old one was . All I have done is unplug the 52xx phone and plug in the 62xx phone and new power supply. The old one works, new one doesn't.

    Could the phones be faulty.

Sorry all I could think off now.

This may sound silly, but do the phones have a tone/pulse option?

See I did think of something else :)
    Dialling mode

You can set the dialling mode as Tone/Timed/Break Tone/Earth or Pulse/Earth.

I would play with that and try every option.

Tone is the default setting for the UK you should only
have to change this if connected to a switchboard that
    requires Pulse dialling.

    1. Press MENU then scroll DOWN to BASE SETTINGS and
press OK. Scroll DOWN to DIALLING.

    2. Press OK then LEFT or RIGHT to display TONE or PULSE.

    3. Press SAVE to keep the settings displayed.

    4. Press to return to standby or BACK to go one step
    back in the menu.

    What is all this?

You can set the dialling mode as Tone/Timed - Break/Tone/Earth or Pulse/Earth.

I would try those three options, well it looks like three to me.
For any phone on a modern British telephone line (or connected via a VoIP/Broadband adapter) you want the Tone/Timed option.

The first part of each of your options refers to the method of dialing.

"Tone" means that numbers are dialed by sending a pair of tones for each digit. This is the quickest method and is accepted by all modern telephone exchanges.

"Pulse" means that numbers are dialed by opening and closing the electrical connection across the line, sending a series of pulses for each digit (1 pulse for the digit 1, 2 pulses for the digit 2, and so on). That's the way old rotary dial phones worked, and many push-button phones of the 1970s onward also provided a pulse-dial option for those who were served by old telephone offices which didn't accept tone dialing. You would only need it today if trying to interface with something like a very old office PBX system.

The second part of the options listed refers to the recall method. That's a method of signaling the equipment during a call that you require some other type of service. In a PBX environment, for example, you would use it to start a transfer of a call to another extension. On a regular line, you use it when you want to put your current call on hold to make a 3-way call, or to take an incoming call if you have call-waiting, for example.

"Timed" means that when you press the "R" or "Recall" button the telephone line is disconnected for a short period of time (a fraction of a second) then reconnected. That signals the equipment to answer the second call, give you another dialtone, etc.

"Earth" means that pressing the "Recall" button connects a local earth (ground) to one side of your telephone line to provide the signal. It was the most common system on old British PBX systems in the past, and there are still some in service which use it. So you would only need to select this option if hooking up your phone to some types of PBX.

I would try the Earth option as the Orchid is like a PBX box, well that's my thinking but I am no expert on phones.

Thanks BritBat. By default the dialling is set to Tone Timed Break, so I tried Tone Earth but without success.

It's early days but I might be on to the answer. When I try to connect, the voltage from the original Orchid power supply drops more with the 62xx series phones than the others. This causes what sounds like a small relay to drop, voltage picks up, relay picks, volts drop, relay drops, and so on. I have connected a more substantial power supply and it seems to work. Time will tell. Regards, JohnF

Glad you are getting there but they should work without any power supply.

So maybe we will get more people getting this problem in the future.

Hi guys I was wondering if you could help me:

I have been using 18185 through my V4 dialler for the last 6 months without a problem using the 0808 1 703703 number as my line used to be with Bulldog.

As I dont need any time related routing I program the codes in manually.

As of yesterday my line was moved back to BT so I need to reprogram the dialler.

As I have the anytime calls package I only want the following calls routed throught 18185:
    • 0845
    • 0870
    • International
    • Mobile
So how do I go about reprogramming the dialler...do I need to reset it first and then program it or.....

    Many Thanks

PM me an email address and I'll try to send you an Excel file showing some suitable CW Client programming.

BTW, you don't want to send all 0845/0870 calls via 18185 - BT is cheaper at certain times - see HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I've had my V4 since 2005 and it's been great. However I've noticed that it's routing calls to 1899 in the evenings and at weekends even though I've programmed it not to route calls at those times. It's costing me 5p per call (at the time when we make most calls) when I'd get them free from BT.

I had this problem when I first bought the V4 and Orchid emailed me and told me how to re-set the clock:
Lift the handset and dial the following:
    **#0000*(hhmmdowddmmyy)*2

Day of week (dow) is Monday=1 to Sunday=7.

I managed this and all was fine.

However, trying to re-set the clock today I just keep getting a 'number not recognised' message.

    Has anyone got any suggestions?

Assuming you use CW Client to program your V4, it's easier just to force home (***12#4567890*3) to pick up the time.

If you don't, don't worry about the BT announcement, just follow the manual procedure for resetting the clock.

  • Can anyone advise me about this please?

We have a BT line and Orchid dialler, which routes calls to mobiles via 18185.

For various reasons, I have opted for the 'Number withheld' service from BT. However it would be useful to over-ride that occasionally when, say, making calls to family members on their mobiles.

I believe there is a code to over-ride number withheld on a per call basis? If someone could tell me this and I programme it into our phone before one of the mobile numbers, will the Orchid box still route the call via 18185? Or do I need to tackle this problem some other way?

    Thanks,

    V

WITHHOLD CALLER ID: 141 [phone number]

RELEASE CALLER ID : 1470 [phone number]

    SOURCE:

You may have to divert out of the Orchid too (121) and go through BT, but I am not sure about that.

    Phone -- (121) Override Orchid -- (1470) Phone number.

You could programe the phone to do that and maybe stop at 1470 then enter the number to dial.

I hope Heinz will be along soon as he is the expert here on the Orchid and Phone calls.
