I wondered how the time and date was updated if there was a power cut if you used Time/Day Routing!
Or you can use the manual procedure:

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz, another very handy single post!; I've started a collection of them now on my hard drive. I don't know how you remember where they all are! It would be good if they could be separated out from threads and put in a sticky, there being so many threads to read to glean good information from :) that way you wouldn't have to point newbies like me to the same place all the time :o

(Thanks for the BT price list point - I couldn't find it on the BT site the other day!)

I use search and macros. :)

You dont think I typed this do you?
    There are five procedures:

    Lift Handset & dial
    **# 0000 * 01536272200 * 1
    Replace handset

    Lift Handset & dial
    **# 0000 * 1 * 8
    Replace handset

    Lift Handset & dial
    **# 0000 * 0 * *
    Replace handset

    Lift Handset & dial
    Set DTMF Mode
    **# 0000 * 0 * 7
    Replace handset

Finally Lift Handset & dial ***12#4567890*3 (this is the 'Force Home' procedure)
    Replace handset

The red LED on the V4 should now flash for at least 60 seconds. If it stops after 20 seconds or so, the Force Home has failed.

    Was one mouse click :)

As regards the power supply - with hindsight I wish I had bought the one with an additional power supply. I have no problems with caller display but my Orchid does drop the date and time quite frequently. (at least once a week) I only realise when I make a standard call at the weekend and it goes through 18185 that it is incorrect. I've now programmed the orchid dial home code into my handset as a contact and just dial it every Friday to make sure the date is set correctly for the weekend.

This would hint that the power supply via the BT line is enough to power the called ID but not keep the clock up to date.

You can purchase a power unit on its own. I am sure I have read it somewhere. Just e-mail Orchid via http://www.orchid-telecom.com

More likely the problem is because Caller Display only requires the line voltage to be satisfactory at the moment the call is received whereas maintaining the day/date/time requires the necessary voltage to be adequate continuously.

I'm thinking of recommending my sister tries an Orchid dialer as well as my parents!

She has a BT line and is on old Option 1. She uses Caller Display, which I see, from Heinz's '6 steps' - post, she could keep by using the 0800 121 8000 automated service. But she also uses Call Waiting and still has some numbers barred, from the days she got a Dialler virus! If she uses a CPS what would she do about those, as she wants to keep those services?

    Thanks, Speedee.

CPS calls providers specify the default routing of your outgoing calls - so Call Waiting (incoming calls) would be unaffected.

I assume you mean she got stung for some 09x calls as a result of a rogue dialler getting into her PC whilst she was using dial up - and she got BT to bar all 09 calls (which they do free of charge). If she still uses dial up, barring 09 calls in the Orchid program (that's one of the standard bars I recommend anyway) and using the Orchid's second socket for the PC's connection solves the problem.

However, now that BT offers its Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan (formerly BT Together Option 2) free if you agree to a 'renewable' 12 month contract and as that differs from Primus Saver Option 2 only in its 60 minute maximum call length (before redialling) as opposed to Primus's 90 minutes, not many people need to opt for a CPS calls provider now IMHO.
