We have a BT line and Orchid dialler, which routes calls to mobiles via 18185.
For various reasons, I have opted for the 'Number withheld' service from BT. However it would be useful to over-ride that occasionally when, say, making calls to family members on their mobiles.
I believe there is a code to over-ride number withheld on a per call basis? If someone could tell me this and I programme it into our phone before one of the mobile numbers, will the Orchid box still route the call via 18185? Or do I need to tackle this problem some other way?
Thanks,
V
Add 1470 with the "S" (Special attribute) to the routing table, the V4 dialler will allow this number through and prefix the carrier information.
See Orchid Advanced User Guide, Version 1.4.2 Page 14 11/2/2005.
.... been working for me since first installed dialler in 2004)

Thanks for the responses. However, 2 questions:
a. By using 1470 before a call, do I have to reset 'number withheld' manually afterwards the call or does it happen automatically?
b. How can I combine 1470 and 18185 ie so the Orchid box still routes the call via 18185? (Ideally, I don't want all calls to circumvent 'number withheld')

The 1470 is for a one off call only.
Each call you wish to release your caller ID you must prefix with 1470
The V4 will prefix the carrier... BT or 18185.
Only minor problem with 18185 the caller ID at the receiving end sometimes shows " International Call"... I guess it depends on how 18185 route the call

Not sure if this is the right place to put it but fell free to copy and paste it into the correct part.
Sky talk users now get free calls to the Sky call centre on 0844 2 414141 (TV) and 0844 241 0499 (BRAOADBAND /SKY TALK.
If you have Skytalk as your carrier pre selection this can be added to your routing table by selecting it from the pull down table in the routing section, meaning that if this number is dialled it ignores all other rules and dials through Sky.

On another note Orchid have released a low radiation cordless phone that has a built in call routing function.
It is not mentioned in the book but I have my parents and me on this ohone and the routing etc is even easier to control.
The model is the LR309 or LR 329 (latter with answering machine).5KW solar, Lux 3.8KW inverter, Uhome 2400 LPF x 6, SOLIC 200 immerser diverter, Leaf 62Kwh, MG ZSev, Ohme home charger, Zappi v2.1, Import: Octopus intelligent ; Export: Octopus Energy Export, 15KW biomass pellet boiler - Windhager., Home Assistant (newbie)0 -
Newbuilder, I am interested in Low Radiation Multi Handset DECT Phones mentioned, but could you explain what the routing process is and if there are any limitations etc. Many thanks0

The routing process is the same as all the V4 and V4+.
Basically, when you buy the phone they allocate you a username and password which allows you to download and use a software package to set up your routing.
You can set up your routing to be time of day and type of call. For example lets call Daytime 1, evening 2 and weekend 3.
So in my case I have Sky as my CPS (carrier pre-selection) and I get free eveing and weekend 01,02 calls but during the day it costs a fortune so I have registered with 18185.co.uk which allows daystime calls for 0p per minute with a one off 5 p connection charge per call.
My routing has 18185 for period 1, Sky for period 2 and BT for period 3.
the latter allows me to get free caller ID and 1571 becasue I make more than 6 calls through BT - all at the weekend and part of their free weekend calls to national numbers.
If you do find limitation like I did, 0870 numbers I route through BT as they are cheaper but as a Sky Talk customer the sky customer servies number 0844 ....... is free through Sky talk. I dropped Orchid an e-mail and they added the option to put an exception for this call so that it was routed through Sky.
I was a little scared of taklcing this myself but Heinz has made a package for BT customers and if you register with Primus for your evening calls, you can ask Orchid to manage your calls through the Heinz model. As I am with Sky I simply asked Heinz to send me his spreadsheet and amended it.

Bought our Orchid v4 in December, and it appears to have developed a fault. It's been working fine all this time, but now we can't dial out at all - there's no dial tone. If I remove the orchid, everything's fine.
On the website t&c's it states that the return policy is only 14 days, that's it. I've yet to contact them, wondered if anyone else has had any problems? or has had their unit replaced for any reason outside the 14 days.
We only have the main bt socket (no extensions or anything), first connection is to the broadband filter, then directly to the orchid. Nothing else.
TIA!Andy

I'd try another filter first but, if that doesn't solve the problem, give Toby at Orchid a ring on 01572 717888.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

If you do not have a spare filter, try plugging in Orchid box directly into socket without the filter.
The service I have received from their customer service has been excellent, been using their diallers since 2004.
Have had a 11 month old dialler, which was failing to route some calls, quickly replaced by Orchid CS.0
