Do you think if the Royal Mail were allowed to they would get rid of 1st & 2nd class and replace it with a "standard" class, same price as 1st class but with the benefits of being able to take upto 3 days to deliver?0

I tried to save a few pennies by sending an item throught work, but the lady who does the post said it would be classed as a packet as it was in a bubble envelope where as I thought it was only a large letter as under 25mm etc. Scandalous if true!0

Sadly that's what would end up happening, it's all about getting money in now, rather than working at structure and planning a future. All the Royal Mail changes have been to set it up to sell it, so trying to make a company that can turn a quick profit rather than a decent service with a good steady income, but I know you already know that!charge £1.50 and keep the advertising revenue
The actual letter service is a straightforward one, so no overwhelming need to do anything radical with it, it's everything that's in an envelope or box that won't go through a letter box or something that needs a signature that pile on the costs. It needs a massive change in the way it is done, rather than chipping away at bits and pieces and messing with pricing.
I can sort of understand why there has been a need for increase in UK prices but seem to miss why international prices have had such a hike. Surely a lot of international post is easier to handle as they don't actually deliver it, although obviously they deliver incoming international post. How does that all work at a pricing level, is it guess work or does each country pay for their post?.0 -
I've just bought 3 500 1st class stamps, two of them on a DVD with the news prices will make 1st class for the same price 2nd class if currently. At least that many stamps should last me at least 8 weeks,0

I've bought 1000 2nd. Might buy more if the ol' cash flow improves a bit - eerily quiet this month!
Anyone tempted to leap in with both feet and set up as a bulk stamp seller? They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Oh, and just to remind folks, now the prices are out - if you ship in the 750g to 1kg range (going up to £3.50 with RM) - DespatchBay are doing small packets (<1kg, and no dimension bigger than 60cm) at £2.48+VAT at the moment. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Does anyone have a link to the new UK charges please.
I sell a lot of postcards which are a letter weighing approx 30g. I am having to give free postage as in the past I have received 6 low stars for charging 60p p & p for first classYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever

If anyone is considering bulk buying stamps and has access to Costco (either their own card or going with someone else), they are doing a brisk trade in 1st and 2nd class stamps at the moment.
I bought a load of 1st class yesterday for £25.79 for 60 stamps which is just under 43p each, so will be a saving of over 17p once the new prices come in.0
