Haven't seen any discussions on here regarding the changes to compensation which have been included in the tariff changes. The main changes, as far as I can see, are as follows:

Currently the compensation arrangements for loss and damage of untracked stamp, meter and account universal services are linked to the price of a stamp (100 x the price of a First Class stamp). From 30th April, the maximum compensation available will remain at £46 where evidence of posting and value can be provided.

Additionally from 30th April the option of buying enhanced compensation from Standard Parcels will be removed - this is an untracked parcels service and the compensation arrangements will remain at a maximum of £46 where evidence of posting and value can be provided.

I posted in one of the threads
TBH removing the compo from Standard Parcels makes sense
its untracked and not suitable for increased values

the severence of compo from 100x1st class cost is different.
that opens the door for all kinds of stuff

As for Large Letters here is what I plan to do:
Get 100 2nd stamps before the rises- 36p each
Get a dozen or so 20p stamps (I don't send that many LL's)
After the rises I need £0.69 postage for each one. This can be acheived by using a 2nd class stamp and 20p stamp. I will be paying £0.56 for my LL's :) 2p cheaper than buying 2nd LL stamps now and 13p cheaper once the rises hit.
The good part is I can buy more 20p stamps if I need as they won't change price, so as long as I have 2nd class left I can get the cheaper rate.

My problem will be the items that I currently sell that have to go as a packet yet weigh Less than 100g and I may seriously have to reconsider selling them. I did give up several lines when Pricing in proportion came in for a similar reason.

Could you sell more than one item at a time thus taking advantage of the higher weight end of this pricing bracket? Obviously it depends what you sell.

I have too much time on my hands and too much excel knowledge, so here is a list of the best savings for packets

    Up to 749 g

    First Class at £2.70

    Use 5 x 2nd class stamps (50p) plus 20 p worth of stamps = £2.70 (save 70p)

    Second Class at £2.20

    Use 2 x 2nd class stamps (50p) plus 2 1st class stamps (60p) = £2.20 (save 56p)

Other combinations have the same saving

    750 - 999 g

    First Class at £4.30

    Use 5 x 2nd class stamps (50p) plus 3 1st class stamps (60p) = £4.30 (save 112p)

    Second Class at £3.50

    Use 7 x 2nd class stamps (50p) = £3.50 (save 98p)

NB. I have assumed folk buy their stamps at today’s prices and make sure they get the ones with 1st or 2nd written on and NOT the ones with a price shown.

And lastly, for a standard parcel, up to 2000g at £5.30

    Use 10 x 2nd class stamps (50p) plus 30 p worth of stamps = £5.30 (save 140p)

Can you use stamps for standard parcels? (Silly question?)

    stamps are RM money
    stamps with no value,just 1st/2nd
are valid for the current price value

after having a proper look, am REALLY not happy about the 0-750g postage
I sell a lot of 100-400g items and the jump in postage from 96p 2nd class (currently the lowest I pay on my lightest items) £2.20 is disgusting
    over double the cost

Another smash the bottom of society/economy, because it is obvious that it is their fault the country is in such a mess. And protect and reward the corporate and banking sector because they did all they could to improve the country and the lives of the people, yeah right!
Mail service is meant to run at a loss to stimulate the wider economy.Just like power, water and public transport. But gubberment will tinker, employ idiots and impose stupid policies to destroy such services so they can be given to "their friends" who can fleece the public.
These price rises are clear signs that the government, along with their friends the banks, have thrown small business under the train as they do everything to destroy the economy. Corporation tax down for the TBTF big boys who also get free slaves from the government with work for your benefits. Small business gets hammered with hikes in costs, driving them out of business which enhances the big boys again as they'll have less and less competition.
We are heading to a totalitarian world. The 1% will rule over the slave masses until automation can supply the services the 1% desire and then.... It's extermination for the 99% as they will be just using up valuable resources that the 1% want.

All to ONE and ONE over all.

On which part of our bill of rights is this stated?

The use of mail now as opposed to when it began is totally different, it is no longer as important as it once was, regarding just letters (parcels are different), who really needs a daily delivery service? With email, telephone, mobiles, skype, instant online payments, etc the postal service as it used to be is no longer necessary. Given then that the majority of its work is for delivering goods rather than letters it is a high percentage of business (small and large) use, so not at all necessary to be non profit making.

That said there are other revenue streams available than just charging at source, I wouldn't object to my stamp having a Carphone Warehouse or Pizza Express logo on if it was going to cost me 10p less for their ad being on it. I've never really understood why that isn't done more with public transport too, instead of paying £1.50 for a trip on the number 17 bus why not pay 20p for a ride on the Marks & Spencer Express?
