Postage increases 2012

Stocking up to avoid price increases:
As a private seller, I stock up on 1st class stamps whenever Superdrug have a 5% discount and use them in quantity for 1st and 2nd class packets, airmail and standard parcels. You can also use them for the additional 'signed for' fee for 1st and 2nd class.
Books of stamps marked '1st' and '2nd' bought BEFORE the price increase will continue to be worth the value of 1st and 2nd class stamps AFTER the price increases, so just before substantial price increases, it's really worth stocking up in advance.
BUY 2nd Class Stamps for the greatest return:
With both 1st and 2nd class stamps increasing in price by 14p each, the PERCENTAGE increase is highest for 2nd class stamps so these offer the biggest saving on future use. [Ist class goes up by 30% and 2nd class by 39%].
2nd Class stamps better value than 1st class with 5% discount:
Superdrug are currently doing a 5% discount on 1st class stamps only (and if you sending items BEFORE the price increases, this is the cheapest way to purchase postage stamps).
However, if you purchase books fo 1st class stamps with a 5% discount and use them after the price increases, you obtain a 35% discount on the new price of a stamp. So 2nd class stamps without a discount still offer a greater saving of 39%.
All very boring ... until you get hurt by the postal price increases!

yeah I see your point.........0 -
so the service should be run at a loss?
No, the cost of running the service should be reduced by introducing competition and efficiencies/economies. A full on sale wont solve anything.....let local businesses take on deliveries to "the last mile" and the local delivery offices. They could also take on collections.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

so this competition
how exactly do they reduce the cost?
how are they being paid?
you undersatand the logistics of delivering the mail?
so they collect mail in what form?
for an entire postcode, street or what?
who sorts it?0 -
The only time I send mail is an official form, and because my employer insists on receiving hardcopy expenses (including printouts of electronic invoices).
The PO are pricing themselves out of the market and wherever possible I do things on line.0 -

The links on this thread only show the overseas prices.
Thanks for your sarcastic reply, I'll find out from somewhere else.
Edit... Thanks Shaun, that's exactly what I was looking forYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever
