Thanks for bearing with us folks, we're working on it and your feedback is appreciated.

    Webby

    Browser client-
    IE8 version 8.0.6001.19190 on Laptop
    IE8 version 8.0.6001.18702 on Desktop

    Operating system-
Vista on laptop, XP on desktop

    Broadband Provider and Speed-
    Plusnet - Downstream speed 8839kbps

    Location-
    Nr. Redruth, Cornwall

    Problem-
Is consistant on both computers for several weeks now, appears to have started after the forum re-vamp and changes, no problems prior to that.

How does it manifest itself?Does it happen more on first load? When you reply? At thread or board level? Just overall slowness? How long a delay are you actually experiencing?-

All of the above, slow loading and pages hanging, very occasionally timing out, delay can sometimes be from a few seconds to ten or fifteen seconds.

Thanks Webby - hope you get some useful replies. All I can say that could help you out is that no other site I regularly toddle around gives me any of the probs I've lately experienced with MSE.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Also I think removing the actual viruses - norton, f-secure, McSafe etc., might help with speed because when the scanning is turned on, the system slows down. Also some of these slow-coach anti virus may not be familiar with sites like these that are often tweaked and upgraded. My ISP provider, the artful Orange, advised me all this. If I have any problem, I call them, they externalise all technical issues and naturally it is never theirs :rotfl:

really, all that's needed is microsoft's own protection and rapport for banking
  • Not that techie - just really frustrated with the speed and hanging issues on this site since revamp. Thank goodness I've been through my LBM and got myself debt-free 'cos I sure as hell wouldn't have hung around reading as much as I did with every single solitary page hanging.

Can't be bothered any more - a real shame. Sort it out MSE.

    For information:-
    Browser I.E ver 8
    Op System XP
    Broadband provider O2
    Local RG12
    Time all day and evening
    Problem Consistant
load time between loading site and all pages(all forums) and back 10 -14secs

It makes looking at any message in any forum up to 1 minute to process and return. WHY do you not admit that there is a problem. Return to the old format until it is sorted.

Why change it in the first place?

IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT! (or break it in this case)

I use latest version of Firefox so it's not just IE that gives problems.

Looking at the bottom status bar on Firefox, a lot of the times that it is really, really slow it says it is "waiting for images2.moneysavingexpert.com"

Then it either loads the page after several minutes but the majority of the time it simply hangs and doesn't load it at all.

edit: that just took about 1½ minutes just to post that reply!

may be everyone should post their broadband speed here and we can find that the culprits :D are these cheapie providers called ntl, iberpass, chat chat, plusnet etc and then ofcourse ie9

Broadband speed has absolutely nothing to do with the fact this site loads slowly since the upgrade.

Trying to access this site on I.E. 8 (8.0.7601.17514IC) on a Win 7 pc ( have both 32 & 64 versions - pc/laptop) is useless. Hanging/freezing pages/slow slow slow loading etc etc. Literally nothing works well as it used to.

Chrome is better but still not problem free. Hangs for ages during initial site loading. Thread preview box hangs and takes longer to disappear.

I'm with Plusnet (speedtest this morning - 6.0Mbps)

    Central Scotland

Problem is consistent (apart from one short interval when things seemed better - posted about above).

    Been this way since upgrade.

    No other site affected.

Also at times it's impossible to shut the site down. (This happens erratically so can't supply particular times.) You can close the browser (I.E.) but MSE will open again immediately. I think this is similar to the issue another user (torbrex from memory?) was having. One day this was so bad I had to restart my laptop to get it to stop. Again this has never happened with any other site. (I live on the internet and surf a lot so it's not as if the opportunity isn't there for it to happen elsewhere or at other times.

Also...main part of site does not suffer from these problems, it's just the forums. Can't you just have a nice new modern main bit and leave the forums alone as they were. It's ok saying you're not getting these problems but loads of us are and we're the ones that use the forums. < Upset because my beloved MSE just isn't working as it used to. You've killed it with 'progress'.

Ok that was a touch dramatic. :rotfl:

Agree with all of that! Not one other site affected for me either, just this forum.

Sometimes I can't log off either and have to resort to closing the window and using a cache cleaner to ensure I've logged off. It is an absolutely ridiculous situation, TBH.

The whole thing is becoming unusable, and as a BG trying to move/merge threads etc when the wretched thing hangs all the time or is on an interminable go slow....well, it's a wonder I have any hair left!

    For information:-

    Browser: IE v8
    OS: XP SP3
    RAM: 3GB
    Broadband provider: BT
    Broadband speed: 3.8 Mbps
    Locality: DN22
Time: Problem is continuous, starting with forum changes.
    Load time: 10-20 secs.

Other sites affected like this: NONE, although content-heavy news sites are slower than they used to be, as they have increased animations and links to Twitter, Facebook, and so on, so it's obvious that these things are not good.

Links to any htpss URL are invariably slower than to a straight http URL. There are now some of these on MSE.

There is obviously an inherent problem, although I suspect that the forum also generally needs slimming down - there is too much extraneous junk. Bells and whistles have to be paid for in terms of speed.

I also wonder if something may have recently been put onto MSE that is provoking AV programs. I don't mean deliberate malware or the like, but perhaps an external link that also has to be scanned before the page will be allowed to load.
