Well dont guess, read what I have written,

its Internet Explorer, Its Firefox and its Google Chrome

If you read back through this thread and the other threads you will see that it makes no differance what browser, what version of windows or what virus protection is used.

And I have no add ons runnung
yeah, my thinking is if the problem is with this site alone then the cause is this site (not add ons) and therefore the people responsible should be fixing the site. however i am playing ball with the suggestions for now and like i said will report back to say whether it has made a difference or not. i am currently running a vulnerability scan to ensure the changes made arent iffy.

Why would add ons only become a problem when the site upgraded?

Why would IE add ons be a problem for Chrome users?

Please can you explain what you mean by "hung" in a little more detail? What happened? For how long?

    Ian
By 'hung' I mean that the background to the forum page loaded but the banners did not. At the bottom left of the screen was the 'waiting for static3...' message, but until the banners had loaded my mouse, tabs, keys etc. did not work at all. The computer completely froze for over a minute.

It is the top banner and the photo of the MSE team that seem to cause the delay every time.

However many times I log on during the day it is always the same - so the banners are not being stored in my cache. It is not so bad waiting for a picture to load if I can use another tab and still work, but this complete freezing problem that has been on here ever since the upgrade to the site is really frustrating.

I'd be very surprised if you had no add-on's at all; there are several needed just to display web pages correctly, and AV/Malware programs often run them on ie.

Have you checked anyway to see if there are add-on's that you just don't know about?
