This shows that you did not understand that the 'problem' that cyclonebri1 posted about was a different problem, hence my reply regarding his own configuration settings. You assumed that he was another user with the page load delay problem.
    Thanks for the reply espresso.
The reason I assumed cyclone had the problem is because he said so when he made the post ....
I've just been redirected here as I have exactly the same issue. After years with no change to the system I suddenly have a problem with MSE ONLY.
He goes on to say the only way to avoid it is to dissable Kapersky etc etc
He also goes on to say he tried to alter settings after experiancing the problems not before.
Now maybe you see things differently but to me he is yet another regular user having problems with this site and no others.

How many users have actually provided any useful feedback to the forum team to aid with their investigations? Not many when you consider the vast amount of posts made every day!
Quite a few have done including me ...both on this thread and by PM to MSE Joe.
Theres also quite a few that have spent many wasted hours playing around with various settings and resets all to no avail.
It's not just about the money

Right, now following advice in this thread and and the 1 I started not knowing this was a problem being experienced by others too, I have added this site to my trusted list. Infact it's the only 1 on the list.

To further confuse the issue and the argument between the last couple of posters the system does not now freeze as it did previously but hangs as per the issue others have. Takes on average 1 to 2 mins to load.
Big difference is that I do now get the "waiting for response from....." message now. Couldn't get that far before.

    Confussed to say the least:cool:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Yes I agree that some users are suffering these problems and it is only since the site had it's makeover but this could still be due to their own user security settings e.g. are they now set to high for this site? Do they need to make exceptions to use this site now?

Some users have commented that if they change the security level on their browser that the 'problem' disappears but they complain that they only have to do this for this site. It appears that cyclonebri1 has shown that he has had similar anti-virus configuration issues.

The latest anti-virus packages and browsers now have more built-in security features, which can cause problems on certain sites. This site now makes calls to various other servers, so if your security is blocking cross site scripting etc. this could cause page loading problems.

Does adding this site to your trusted list also allow calls to other servers from this site? e.g. http://use.typekit.com/ and http://ajax.googleapis.com/

It seems to me that users of this site who want to maintain a high level of protection, now need to make exceptions in their previously working configurations, to allow this site to work.

I am not a web designer but is it really necessary for this site to make use of these other sites or is it the responsibility of users to learn how to allow them in their own security settings?

Users can set site specific security preferences in IE and Opera and use the NoScript add-on in Firefox to control cross site script protection, however this may well be beyond the average surfer!

Since my post yesterday, over 400 more views to this thread and no more new problem sufferers have posted.

I don't know if this is of use to anyone.

I had massive problems for months accessing this site (with all browsers). Mainly missing images, if I could be bothered to wait that long for for it to load.

My clue came when just happened to look in my Belkin routers security log and it had loads of “***SYN Flood to Host***”. Did some tweaking with the routers firewall settings and now the site loads first time every time.

Page that helped me was http://www.superstaradmin.co.uk/2010/12/syn-flood-to-host-on-belkin-router/

Edit: Try 192.168.2.1/firewall_spi_h.stm if you have a Belkin router, the one in the above link is wrong.

I have been having problems with MSE loading for quite a while now. Having never had problems for years. It is only MSE and it is the first time I try to get on, (ie when I close page and go in again its fine, but when I shut down whole pc and then start up again it does it again). When I first go on MSE, either following email link or typing it fresh in bar it will totally freeze my whole computer, can't use mouse can't type, can't shut down, this will happen for about 20-30 seconds before it will then load up and everything else will be fine.
I have been through the last few pages of this thread and can't understand what/if there is anything I can do to stop it. I am running Windows 7 and use IE (dont know what version but it updated and changed itself recently). Can anyone please tell me in "dumb blonde" terms how to fix it. Oh and I can't stop my add-ons as I need the ones going that are on the list (and don't see why I should have to stop them just for one site either). Thanks

You have exactly the same issue as me, improved now from the toatl freeze I was experiencing but it takes about 2 mins to clear.

If I want to view anything on MSE, (which is getting rarer because of this issue), I open it, or try to, and go and make a cup of tea. Seems ok after that so I leave some part of MSE open all day:sad:

  • Hi cyclonebri1,
You have exactly the same issue as me

Similar symptoms. Different cause. If I find a common cause I will post about it on this thread. Until then it's more useful to tackle these problems on a case by case basis. Thanks :).
