One only has to wonder if all these amazing cheap deals was some form
of ploy to aqquire such a huge ammount of orders = more credit card
    information.

Speculation is wrong but so is 60 quid taken off your card without your permission.

You also have to question why most of the fraud took place with gambling sites, I mean gambling can become a serious illness and someone within the company could quite easily of been behind all this without really seeing the
severity of it if they had a gambling addiction.

Who knows but at one point it was on alot of the posts made by Paul Owen
  • I wasn't gonna post exactly because I expected to be quoted and then someone go off and rant at a tangent.

I purely said speculation helps nobody and provided some information I know for a fact, nothing else.

I'm annoyed as anyone (i've been hit by this too remember) , but having previously used ShopNeo and NeoDisks i'm not jumping to conclusions about the owner based upon actual experience of service rather than my imagination at a time when i'm emotional.

Nobody knows anything other than that our details have been comprimised, this could have been by any party and for all we know (and which looks quite likely) ShopNeo are as much victims of this as the rest of us.

I think the ShopNeo management probably have a million and one things to do to correct all of this and are most likely a little pushed for time in answering every email, phone call and forum post. Never mind defending themselves against little more than gossip and speculation.

If it comes out they are negligent or a guilty party in all this fair enough, but at the moment nobody actually knows!

their website is secure it looks like a customized x-cart shopping cart site https://www.x-cart.com

I think the security loophole must be where the cards are captured.

if they're not using an online payment processor and capturing card details to process offline then this must be the problem.

I was under the impression that processing "customer not present" transactions for a website was not allowed by the banks. Companies do this because the rate they get from the bank is cheaper through a credit card terminal. The reason for this is because the customer is usually there with the card.

does anyone have any details about how the card details were taken?
  • Well my transaction was customer not present they sent me the paper work even says who took the payment.

From shopneo Terms & Conditions (25th Feb 2007)

    Credit Card Security
Online credit card transactions are handled securely by Lloyds. They comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS) and are externally audited in this respect. Your credit card details are not held on file.
I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes.

It would be interesting if it was the same person who processed all the problem accounts...

Its turning into a thread full of speculation and incorrectness which benefits no-one.

it does make you wonder considering his reluctance to contact the police

I have a card receipt too with the last 4 numbers of my now cancelled card on it, it also has a Served By:***** ***** on it.

    which then turns into :-

"IIRC the items were processed manually, ie, I got a card receipt that had been manually put through a machine yet the site is secure? I'd be looking at the integrity of any staff tbh."

Exactly, so staff must get to see the card details or why else would a credit card machine printed receipt exist!
I bet they've got some cheapo website setup, where the details are sent to Shopneo via an email system or something which is how fraud was possible.

It must be good to be an outsider with indepth knowledge of how a company processes payments. Every receipt I get has the last 4 numbers on it, its usually done electronically. Result is staff don't have access to the numbers.

Any chance of you justifying your comments?
