Shopneo - Possible card fraud warning

Options
I've just received a letter from Shopneo alerting me to the possibility of possible 'spurious transactions' around the time of my order to them. I was already looking into such a transaction with my Egg M/C on 4th February (£156), for the day I placed an order for the pendrives. They state that they are contacting clients who used them within a 'target' timeframe.

I know every good moneysaver will check their statements anyway but thought an alert wouldn't go amiss.

I know this isn't a short-term bargain but thought that since it was a direct result of the shopneo pendrive bargain posted here it might be appropriate to reach possible victims.

Is it worth considering as a short-term sticky?

Mods please deal with this post as you see appropriate.

  • Thanks Poppycat. I didn't spot them when I searched because I was looking for Shopneo in the Grabbit section (got drawn into the original thread).

Still think it wouldn't do any harm leaving it high up on the grabbit for a couple of days though.

I just cancelled my debit card with my bank. I ordered the Dyson blank DVD's but thankfully no dodgy transactions have occured on my account.
Also thankfully it's only going to take 3 working days for a replacement card which is pretty good but still massively inconvenient.

As the source of the fraud still hasn't been found by Shopneo then it really wouldn't do Shopneo any harm in alerting the Police, they should investigate it, they have departments for fraud afterall. They might wonder why it wasn't done sooner, but it's better late than never.

The provider of the 'secure' server that Shopneo uses should be questioned by Shopneo for not providing said 'secure' server.

I feel very sorry for all those that have had money taken. I shall think twice in future about ordering off the net again from anywhere.

Not that it is, but if it was my website I'd have taken it offline until things were sorted and then changed to a different server provider.

Maybe the image at the bottom of the site should be removed/edited until it's all sorted so any possible future customers aren't caught out, unless you've already changed to a more guaranteed secure server that is.

Anyone that hasn't cancelled their card/s yet, DO IT NOW!! You may not have been affected yet but anything could happen in the months to come. Don't delay, pick up the phone right now, it only takes a couple of minutes.
  • Well at least Shopneo will be happy now the thread has been removed from the grab-it board. I guess user's loseing money is'it that importent.
  • Does this affect all transactions?

Last ordered off them in November and havent a clue what card i used !!!!
  • I last ordered in November and have had 2 fraudulent charges attempted to be taken (one was debited, the other just authorised) in the past fortnight. No idea though where my card details were leaked from, or if the scammers just guessed the card number.

Edit: oh, and no letter from ShopNeo received to date.

Shopneo's letter stated that they were contacting customers who had shopneo transactions "...within a 'Target' timeframe". No indication how wide that is but if your buy was November and you had transactions in the last couple of weeks it looks as if nobody's safe.
  • I wonder how many Shopneo customers would ever look at this section of MSE apart from those of us that have followed this already via grabbit.

A pretty bad show not allowing this warning of fraud to stay on grabbit with a sticky for at least a few days to highlight the problem for thise who dont visit the board every day.
It wouldnt hurt the grabbit board to keep it posted but to remove it to the darkest depths like this almost seems like complicity to keep it as quiet as possible to not hurt future sales for Shopneo.
Come on board guides, refer this one to Martin if you dont want to take the responsibility for keeping it on grabbit yourselves.

Its begining to look like the whole customer details list was compromised as we now have a purchaser from November having problems too.
Anyone having these details could start to use them at any time in the future while the card is still within date so without a proper warning visible other members could some months down the road get stung as well.

If you used a card at shopneo then get it cancelled right away!
  • I totally agree Oldman.....

People need informed of this....A warning should be sent in the weekly news email as well!!

If neo had reacted quicker, I would have had my card cancelled and no payments would have been taken....

I found the letter sent out an absolute joke....basically denying all responsibility,,,the part where it says they have sent the email out of "courtesy" made me laugh.....

Has anyone heard from Paul since late yesterday afternoon?
  • Just sent Paul an email.....

    Got this back....
