It's been hinted at before, but being a man myself, I see it that the most likely reason for this gift is that he's hoping to butter her up for a good rogering. Keep an eye on him!

I am sorry you had to go through that.

Perhaps your husband IS creating some good karma, if that is your belief, and feels your family and you are worth more to him than the machine.

Honestly, i can see why you are upset, it stinks to have an almost won, but you know, you are expecting a joy, with a man who i guess you mainly love, and you won't have the elctricity costs of running the drying part of the machine :)

Thanks, :o it felt like a kick in the teeth when it happened so perhaps his gesture will pay off and at least grant us the good health of this bubba :o

I would have flipped at him too.

It's obvious this girl isn't in dire need of the machine (with having a partner who works full time), so I wouldn't have understood if my husband had offered it.

The least he should have done was to have let you know when he won it and suggested offering it to her, then at least you could put your points across why you didn't want her to have it.

Charity begins at home in my book, I certainly wouldn't give a high value item to a collegue I only knew for a few months, unless they were really desperate and on the bones of their backside and I'd told my husband my intentions.

Doesn't the girl and her OH have a washing machine now? If not, what do they do for their own clothes?

    Yet you're having another baby?

What business is this of yours? Honestly...

OP, I would have been very mad too, it's perfectly understandable.
However, as so many have said, it was also very kind of him. He didn't think of it as depriving you of something, but rather as making someone happy with an unexpected gift he thought he had no immediate use of.

Since you have children, he probably readily assumes the role of "father figure", and wanted to be kind to this very young woman. I'm sure that's as simple as that, really. You have a very generous husband! I think you should tell him how you feel, and put this behind you. I'm sure he never even thought it would hurt you in any way!

People on this site never cease to amaze me how they feel they can judge someones entire life from one little sentence !

Just to put your mind at ease my MIL gave us the money to buy a machine as the last one we had, which was a hand-me-down as was the one before that, had broken and we didnt want to put it on the credit card and pay through the roof in interest charges.

We pay her back at £50 a month - an amount she set.

Whilst we are by no means comfortable, we live in more comfort than many and have a lot less than others. The big buys have always had to go on credit, cant see us ever getting to the stage where that wont be the case.
