Just to update on the situation, I have logged onto the O2 website and checked if I am eligible for upgrading online - which I am!
It gives me a choice of phones, and with regards to tariff there is an option:

'Keep your current tariff (extend your contract by another 12 months)'

I know some people have done this online, but I am a bit wary as I don't want at the end of the 12 months they cancel my PUFL number, or start charging.
  • I am also in dispute with O2 as they have started tariff chages on my PUFL contract. I have had several letter/email exchanges with the O2 Complaint Service but so far they are sticking to their guns and state that the PUFL contract no longer exists! I have never been informed of a change to the contract and i belive that we have been miss-sold this contract. O2 also eluded to the fact that the reason that this contract no longer exists is because the sevice provider has changed???? According to Offcom this is illegal. I am trying to obtain a 'deadlock' letter from O2 at which point i will refer this matter to Offcom. THE MORE OF US THAT DO THIS THE BETTER!

    Thank you magraves2

Please keep us all informed - we've not heard anything from O2 yet - but if we do will challenge it.

This tarrif must be a real pain for them - our monthly bills are just a few pence at the most.
  • Does anyone have a copy of the original contract, including terms & conditions, they can email me - or know where i can find it?. I have lost mine and it would really help with my case against O2.

    Thanks.

Have a search for 'PUFL' - there are several threads on this contract.
One post says they have the original contract - and they are still on MSE - so you could PM (if you need to know how please ask)

Just wanted to say, read every post (after about 30 mins!) and great thread.

It seems only one person has had their contract actually changed incorrectly after an upgrade and others seem to have been doing this for a couple of years now.

I have had my SIM in a draw somewhere, but now looking to use it again. Emailed O2 about my allowances and they said:

I've checked your account and currently you're on a Legacy tariff (Mytime Net 200 Pay Up Front). It includes:

    - 200 Minutes Weekend & Off Peak
    - Unlimited WAP.

WAP is Wireless Application Protocol and it's a compressed version of the internet page specially designed for mobile phones. It's simply using internet on your phone.

You can use WAP anytime of the day.

I've checked our details and you don't get free minutes to use WAP but it depends on the number of pages you view in a day.

As you have unlimited WAP on your tariff, you can view unlimited WAP enabled websites on your phone.

I am not quite sure what type of mobile internet WAP is, but sounds good - anyone know more? Someone was saying that they couldn't get their line enabled? Is it an old technology now and will some newer ones still use it?

Also, is this crossnetwork minutes or not - people seem to think different things?

The only question I can answer is that it is not cross network. Only to o2 and landlines.

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) on o2/Genie was minutes at product launch - a dial up connection.

WAP was replaced by GPRS/3G connections or rather MIGRATED when o2 stopped dial up WAP, 3G is just faster GPRS, for the technophob's WAP over dial up/gprs/3g is INTERNET, sometimes limited to WAP sites eg...mobile versions of FULL sites, sometimes it applies to both depending on mobile operator/billing/account/tariff (priceplan) structure

Just different access method's &/or speed but always INTERNET access.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I can now upgraded online here
    https://upgrades.o2.co.uk/index.htm#getMPN

You need to add the contract (keep existing contract) from drop down list first, then select from phones (free with existing contract).

That gave me this list of phones to choose from

    New phones:
    Nokia 6500 (plus speakers)
    Nokia 6600 slide
    Motorola Motozine ZN5
    Sony Ericsson S500
    Sony Ericsson C702
    O2 XDA Zest

    Refurbished phones:
    Nokia 5310 (plus speakers)
    Nokia N73 (plus speakers)
    Nokia 6300

There where some Blackberry's on thelist, but it wouldn't let me add them to the basket with the current tariff. I went for the o2 XDA Zest as I could make use of Windows Mobile and the camera wasn't bad. My second choice would have been the Motorola or Sony C702.

It went all the way through to checkout with keeping existing tariff, extending it for 12 months (!!??) with absolutely no charge. Even gave free next day delivery.

I tried in sotre and they didn't want to know and said that I would have to do it online. So checked out the phones while there to give me a better idea. They didn't really want to, but they let me have a play with a live one as well

I still can't believe they are giving me a £250 phone for the £99 I paid originally and I can get a new phone every year and free minutes!!!! Crazy!!

Thanks for the WAP explanation - spoke to O2 guy in shop and he said that WAP is outdated, so I guess our free WAP is useless?

6500 is fault ridden with poor signal performance, best choices:

    Sony Ericsson C702
    O2 XDA Zest
    bNokia 6600 slide
