Race to be in before easter

We have had a quote for £1500, but if they can get it done any cheaper then go for it, only thing is we have to have to work done after completion. They have got a copy of the electrical report, so they can see what work needs doing.Wins

After posting on Friday I had some more news. Although it's not definite yet there is talk of completing on 30th March
That's agggeesss away! Although now we've had time to think about it, I guess it works out quite nicely as the following weekend is easter, so more time off to sort things out. It's just a bit disappointing as we were told we'd be in before end of feb. I know I shouldn't have really listened to them, but being ftb I guess we were a little naive.
We should exchange this week (fingers crossed).0 -
Finally received the mortgage offer from the bank - for completely the wrong amount, fees added to the mortgage and MPPI included. Grrr
Spoke to the mortgage company. First guy was useless and said an advisor would ring me back. No call so called today and the idiot hadn't passed the new information on. Has to go back to the underwriters apparently (even though it's for less money)
My Conveyancer has also left the solicitors so I have a new woman who is a bit backwards in coming forward. The vendors solicitors were wrote to on the 15th Feb and they still haven't sent any documentation through. I've done everything I can so its a case of twiddling my thumbs now.0 -
Surveys are always scary, it's their nature. The one on the house I'm living in now basically told us that everything needed doing - replastering, rewiring, reroofing, replacing floorboards, replacing bathroom, etc etc. We put central heating in and double glazing, did the floorboards, but haven't done most of the rest of it - and the house didn't fall down around us. Next house? A bit of re-roofing on the porch, move a huge tree in the garden. Get someone in to check boiler, electrics, etc. I don't think half of the things they say are that essential, but they've got to point out every little thing.
Moving Friday - my life is entirely made up of boxes, but I think it's going okay...0 -
i feel a bit cheaky joining the thread here, but we saw & offered on a house last week, expect a response tomorrow, and if it's a yes we're due to be in within the next 2-3 weeks. buying a house and moving in a month, is it even possible!
it's the first time we've bought a house in this county (england) so have had to learn fast... but so far it's looking like it is possible, we were organised before viewing, had aip for mortgage etc.
but if it falls through, we're almost desperate to get a hoouse, and in prefect buying position to rescue some of you guys who've been waiting ages for a buyer to get things moving!
fingers crossed for tomorrowDon’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.0 -

I believe it is possible, but in my solicitors notes it says they charge more for quick exchanges.
I don't want to put a downer on things, but try not to get too excited. We were told that we had to do it all in 6 weeks and now its turning out to be 10 weeks...we're ftbs too and were maybe naive about it all and now we're quite disappointed as we thought we'd be in our new house by the end of Feb.0 -
Well nothing has happened on our purchase for 2 weeks because the vendors solicitors have not responded to a request our solicitors made. I'm annoyed with both sets of solicitors - theirs for being crap, ours for not chasing. I think at this rate we'll be lucky to be in for Easter. For saying this is a 1 house chain it's ridiculous.0

We've exchange. We are completing on Friday at long last!!0

Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -
We completed on Friday!!
House is fantastic and we're really happy, but thought I would share the rather long list of "what went wrong" - maybe someone can beat ours??!
Friday
4:30pm arrives and no sign of the sale proceeds in my partner's account as per our instructions to TT (telegraphic transfer) them in same-day. Ring the solicitors to find that:
a) They sent us a cheque instead of the TT, despite basically admitting that they did have "some handwritten note" of our TT request. (We actually have a copy of a typed letter confirming the TT request).
b) Halifax had charged us a redemption fee, despite our mortgage being ported to the new house, so we were missing nearly £3,000!!
Tried to speak to our mortgage advisor (a friend of ours) but can't get in contact with him. Went out for a nice meal with our old neighbours Fri nite, but spent the whole time worrying about the money...
Saturday
Speak to our mortgage advisor who reassures us that Halifax have made a mistake and he will speak to them first thing Monday to rectify.
Visit Comet to collect the fridge and freezer that we'd order the previous weekend. Get them home to find that both are dented and scratched!! Return to the store and managed to get a replacement fridge that wasn't damaged, but the other freezer they had was damaged again. Took the fridge home and the freezer is *hopefully* being delivered this afternoon (fingers crossed).
Got loads of house DIY done though, which actually went quite well!
Monday
Went to collect some curtains that we'd ordered the previous week, to find that they still aren't in stock and won't be until the end of the week, so we still have no bedroom curtains.
Our new bed frame was supposed to be delivered, but got a phone call at 9am to say they'd "forgotten" to load it onto the lorry - great, no bed either!
Went to the solicitors to complain about the lack of a TT on Friday, and had a really awful conversation with one of their conveyancing department, who was one of the most rude and unhelpful people we've ever met, so we have written a stinky letter to one of the partners to complain both about her attitude and the fact that we were sent a cheque instead of TT. Hopefully we'll get a response by tomorrow.
Did speak to halifax and they've agreed to refund the redemption fee, which we should've had in our account this morning, but no sign of it yet...
Other than that, the house is perfect!!! :beer:0
