Can you clarify - do you mean without telling anyone ever, or without telling people their plans and going it alone?Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

How can you keep a marriage a secret? That's why you need witnesses. And why would you want to anyway?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Those witnesses do not need to be friends or family.0 -
OP, I don't think marriage can be a secret as whatever is done in the dark has to come out in the light. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

I don't really understand why anyone would want to keep it a secret. Normally when people get married they want to share the celebration with others.0

I didn't say they did. But if you marry in front of people, it's not 'secret' is it. In fact, by law, marriages can't be 'secret'.
If the OP is asking, did anyone marry without telling their friends and family, then this is a completely different question."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

You're not actually allowed to get married in the dark either. It's to stop you being married off to your sister, or a horse, or something."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Marriage is a publicly-demonstrated commitment. That's an important part of the ceremony. It's why if you marry in church, you can't make it a closed event. Technically anyone can attend (although you'd have struggled to get into Westminster Abbey when William married Kate Middleclass).

You mean kept it a secret from family and friends and rushed off to gretna green? No, surely you would want all your loved ones around you on your big day, it is one of the best days of your life after all, share the love not hide the love:D0
