Surely he wouldn't get my kids at the weekend...

Some interesting replies.
Perhaps I should have worded the thread
"Do you think it's ok that my ex refuses to look after our children while I am at work for 1/2 days a week? Currently, tax credits pays me £320 per week for someone else to do it while I am earning £27,000. I think the total I get per year is about £15,000 per year in tax credits."
Then everyone would moan that he could be doing it and saving the tax payer money. This forum is so full of hypocrits!!0 -

can you people not see your getting one side of a story, written to get you to give the OP some moral support. The father was perfectly acceptable as free childcare, but he's in need of locking up and a full frontal lobotomy for arguing with the OP.
Pathetic, attention seeking thread.
Did you hear a few weeks ago about the guy in the north-east who had depression, a gun licence and a rifle? he ended up killing his partner, her sister and her daughter, as well as injuring his partner's daughter. Do you really think a person with any kind of MH, who has tried to commit suicide should have any kind of weapon?
Aimeesmum, I agree this forum is full of hypocrits and nasty posters who used to stay in the Arms but are now spreading their wings, so you just have to deal with it. You said you ex came to you to buy him a gun, often asks for money. Do you usually give in and give him money?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

can you point out the posters on this thread who would be likely to moan like that in the circumstances you have described in your post?0 -

Oh come on balletshoes! May be not on this thread but she has a point. DT is now full of anti benefit claimant threads. Don't you ever go there? You should. It's an eye opener on what some people think.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

I wouldn't have said that.
You would be happy with him caring for the children during the week so you can't have any worries about their safety. If he's likely to start messing you around, the weekend care would make your life much easier.
It would be better if you didn't need to claim so much in benefits but a stable life will be much better for the children. That's worth the money.0 -

no, I rarely go to DT, or the benefits board. I know what you mean about the benefits bashers, but I'm not one of them, and as I don't venture onto those boards, I can only go by what other posters have replied on this thread and the subject in hand, as described by the OP.0 -
I wasn't getting at anyone in particular on this board balletshoes but I have had people jump down my throat before when me and my ex-partner were just claiming incapactiy benefit and income support.
There are lots of things to consider and things with my ex-partner and I have took a real dive recently. Initially he was leaving to get the support he needed to get better - bit by bit all that support was removed from his pyschiatrist and his GP and he has recently started drinking again. We weren't supposed to be breaking up but rather he was taking time away from his family to get the help he needed. Obviously, me and the kids aren't enough for him to want to change.0 -

Or how about:
'Do you think it's ok to risk my job and probably end up on full benefits, rather than claim tax credits, just so I can make my unreliable ex do what I think he should be doing?'0 -
If he is only having that at the weekends to "get at you" then I doubt the arrangement will last long. He will get bored. Looking after two young children is hard work (as I'm sure you know).
Personally, if he is liable to play games, then I would want him to have them at the weekends so he can't mess up my childcare arrangements. He can play a lot more games if you are relying on him in order to get to work on time. He doesn't sound like the kind of man you can rely on.0 -

Oh no! I didn't say you were one! I hope you didn't think that! I never venture on the benefits board (didn't even think about that one) and I rarely now go into DT because of the benefit bashers (shame because it used to be a great board), but perhaps Aimeesmum does, hence her comment.
