OP, see your solicitor with the full facts - in your shoes I would bar all access and get an injunction. It's a no-brainer.

This is not about ancient history, this is about what the OP's ex is now. Why in heaven's name would he want or need a rifle? What possible good can that do, in anyones hands let alone an alcoholic?! Besides which, he expects his ex to spend money on him which is bad enough in itself (and in doing so probably make her an accessory to a crime) rather than on their children? This guy is seriously bad news, it sounds like he's involved in something dodgy and not the kind of person who should be around children.

Give him time, he can have access once a fortnight from the comfort of a prison cell.

Actually the OP never posted about the gun until much later in the thread Proof is also needed of the absent parent actually possessing a gun.

Can I just point out that the OP had another thread regarding leaving her partner on which she was given good advice and empathy.

Solicitors are not always the solution to family disputes concerning children especially when emotions are running high and splitting up is raw. However, I respect your opinion, as I do everyone's. You sound quite bitter, but each to their own.

He says that he wants to go shooting squirrels. Apparantly one of the guys that is in the B&B has an uncle who owns a farm and he has said that he wants rid of the grey squirrels. The rifle including all the bits is over £200!

When mum and dad, sadly, can't agree then the courts get involved so that the rights of the children are primary.

In these cases I feel that mum and dad don't have rights, so much as duties.

Is that really all he's fit for? I know times are tough, but this cannot be the only job opportunity available. If any other job required an upfront investment of £200, most people would rightly walk away. So ask yourself what else makes it so attractive to him? It's hardly a job with prospects.

Indeed it's not about ancient history, and I make no secret of it, I'm sick to death of one side of a partnership suddenly spilling all the dirt on their exs once the the relationship breaks down (and on this forum it is often women), who is to say the OP is even telling the truth? The courts will decide on access and will soon pick up on lies.
If the guy suddenly switched off from the kids and just paid his CS contribution, he would still be a bad person. I'm not comfortable with as folk answer the OPs queiry then all of a sudden more bad points come out, she is hell bent on the children not seeing their dad.
Let me know who is perfect?

The children are not property to be owned or shared. They are growing people. It seems that in too many cases the children are refered to in the same way as "the family car". "You can have them every other weekend", is not the same as, "What arrangement allows the children to best grow and prosper as happy people?"
