You should thank them for thinking of you, but [STRIKE]you'll choose how to spend your own money thankyou[/STRIKE] you can't afford it, and invite them round the weekend after for a birthday dinner and bake him a cake.

Your description of your sister's superiority complex coupled with the weekend plans make it very Alan Partridge-esque, I think it's hilarious.

'After enjoying the fix prix menu at East Norfolk's finest gastro pub, everyone is welcome back to my humble abode for cocktails and witty banter, but please note there is a ten pound surcharge for Boaster biscuits.'

Sounds like the pretentious 'playing at grown ups' sort of weekend you plan in your early twenties when your smugness is at it's peak!

Congrats on telling them where to get, Your sister and her lot sound like right wronguns!:T

I must say the sense of relief i felt since saying no has been wonderful, you area all completely right i am slowly but surely getting to the point where i can just say no, if it was up to DH it would have happened years ago, however, she is my sister and i do love her, family means a lot to me and i never would want to cut her out of my life.

My DH thinks it is time we only did neccessary family get togethers and face the fact that we can no longer socialise with her, so sad though as DH, sister and i used to be so close.

I know yo are not going but have you also said no to babysitting and having nothing to do with the weekend celebrations?

Yes i have refused to be part of any of it, the nail in the coffin was when she told me she hoped we could make it for just a few drinks on Sunday as BIL would be gutted if we weren't there, i said ok will see nearer the time, and in the next breath was asking me to babysit meaning we could not have attended the Sunday!

    Hmmm yes gutted methinks not!

Ah but you see that would have been really handly so you could have taken your nephew with you and saved them the long drive to collect him themselves!!

Well done for sticking up for yourself - you've saved yourself the bother/cost of even going on the Sunday now lol

Ah but you see we couldn't as we could not fit in the car, which she knows, she was clearly quite happy for her son to miss out on the 'family sunday' thing as it is a 3 hr round trip to mine and back to hers and there is no way on earth she would be up at 9 after a night out to be back for everyone arriving at 12 so she would have just left him with us, unfortunately a lot of the time her son it seems is just a big inconvenience to her which makes me very sad.:(
