I have just read that in the WW book I have been lent...I guess it makes sense, stronger harsher flavour need less:D0 -
Well, hello everyone, been looking at this site for a while and found this thread tonight. First time of posting - well, ever, really.
Single mum, delightful five-year old boy, part-time teacher, not much money since I gave up a lucrative but stupidly demanding job (but no regrets on that score). Been trying to live very frugally and don't go out for the most part, have cut back a lot on wine, no spare money for gym membership or babysitters and...find myself comfort-eating and getting a bit lardy. Slowly, but surely, and I'm really not looking forward to summer and trying to fit into clothes that looked fine last year. I have tried over the last few months to take control of my eating and exercising more, but keep falling by the wayside. I tried one of those Tesco online diet things, but the recommendation was for 1200 calories and ludicrous amounts of exercise and I am just too hungry to manage on what they recommend! So I wasted my money on it and feel very silly for it.
I thought I would try the GI diet (it seems healthy and I can cook for my little one easily) and get back into regular walking and jogging (not more than 40 mins a day though). I don't really need to lose a huge amount of weight, but even so, I'm finding it difficult to muster the necessary will power and feel rather demoralised by the situation.
I'm sorry to introduce myself in such a downbeat way, especially to people who are achieving so much - any tips on how I can get out of this rather negative way of thinking, which drives me to the biscuit tin, and feel a bit more positive?
Best wishes all.0 -
Hi Kate - welcome to the Lose Weight thread and congratulations for posting for the first time on here - that's a positive move.
Don't worry about being downbeat, sometimes you need to get to that point before you get your lightbulb moment and find the motivation to do something positive.
Stick around - we're a friendly bunch, and I'm sure you'll pick up some useful tips.

thanks Lois. By the way, what's the 'motivation is everything, willpower nothing' motto? Does it mean setting yourself goals that inspire you? but how do you then stick to it without willpower? Or having treats to reward yourself for achieving your goals?
Hmm...need to think this through!0 -
Newbie here.... thought I should introduce myself
Just started back on WW as I've a pound or two to lose (ok ok maybe more like a hundred! lol) I'm not attending the meetings but have been the lucky recipient of lots of WW bumph and weigh once a week every week...
Will make this a regular port of call and hope I can call on you for motivation as and when required (needed in particular when passing the sausage roll counter at Morrisons...mmmmmmmmm)
Looking forward to a thinner future (as is my bike! :rotfl: )

Welcome Katew07 and Trikerandbiker (and any other newbies I've missed - sorry).
This forum is a great way of motivating yourself - everyone is really friendly and someone will always answer any queries/questions, and just reading the threads is enough to help you on your way.
Good luck with your healthy eating (prefer not to use the word diet) journey.Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
HI
Thanks for all the welcomes - sorry didn't come back after I went off to weigh myself!
Well done to those who've lost - very motivating! I'm a bit more than I thought I would be, but not by loads - am now (deep breath!!) 12st0.5lbs(I'm 5 7 ish)
But this does mean that my target for next Weds weigh in is just a lb. I'm off to my sisinlaws this weekend which will involve her food and mucho wine, but if I try to stop being such a pig I hope to achieve this! I'll attempt to be more active as well which should help- I hurt my back really badly after a session at the gym six weeks ago so am a bit nervous about this.

this is my first time posting on this thread- have thought about it for a while now and read it nearly every day .i follow the WW plan but im not doing so well at the mo despite sticking to my points.I have 8-9 stones to loose but realistically 6 would suit me fine but im kinda stuck.been sticking to my points daily for last 7 weeks apart from a couple of days when i went a bit over and have lost 1lb in that time-due to illness im unable to do a lot of exercise but i do try and do something most days either exercise bike or walking .
any help i can get i will take with open arms and hopefully i can help others as well-i know the theory but the practise alludes me LOL.
well heres to the first of many posts here

Hello Janey and welcome to the gang! Sure you will find it very helpful on here.
Well I have just been out for an Italian with my parents. Don't see them very often as they live up north and it was lovely to spend some time with them, but not sure what damage I have done with the meal - feel absolutely stuffed.
Did a longer session at the gym this morning in anticipation, and had one slice of toast rather than two at breakfast, beans on toast for lunch and an orange late afternoon, so hope to have limited the damage a bit.
Couldn't resist the bread basket (this particular restaurant does a great mixed basket with olive oil). Also had olives, then anti pasti but tried to take small bits and chew slowly. Then went for chicken wrapped in parma ham with pesto potatoes and rocket. Thought it would be a healthier option and was very tasty - but there was obviously lots of pesto and butter in there: tasted rich and buttery and very yummy! Was going to give dessert a miss but then got tempted - afogato (vanilla icecream with hot espresso coffee over it) which wasn't too bad was it? Well, not as bad as it could have been.
Anyway, had a lovely time and enjoyed the meal ( and only one glass of wine as was driving so at least limited the damage there!) and back to being really good tomorrow - only 10 days til my hols.Proud to be dealing with my debts0
