Sorry to hear about your nightmare experience Kira - had similar experiences with ds2 and dd so know how stressful it is. (ds2 had to be mixed fed after becoming dehydrated and dd was on expressed milk from the start) - both times because they couldn't feed properly from birth. They both started to feed well from about 3 mths which was great but the first 3 mths with both was fraught.

Another crappy night sleep, to make up for the ok night the night before. LO fed fine which is reassuring, in fact she barely wanted to leave my boobs all night- it was the only thing to calm her down! Other than that it was crying all night. Tried burping and gently tummy pats, gentle rocking, etc, but nothing settled her. Not sure what else to try when she is like that?? you could see she was tired, by the wide eyes stare, but she just couldnt settle. MIL texted at 8am, offering to buy us a Ewan dream sheep, not sure where she heard about it, but i hadnt mentioned it. I almost bit her hand off with an immediate yes!

I'm feeling quite crummy now, after about maybe an hour of grabbed 5 mins, but i managed a shower and a bowl of cereal whilst DH took her out in the pram for 20 mins, so slightly more human and less scuzzy!

On the plus side, lots of poo and wee activity, a good sign that she is feeding well, and I noticed that the loose skin on her neck has filled out so sure she is gaining again. YAY!

hugs kira, the only thig that settled samuel when he was unwell was either my boob until he made them sore or a dummy, i know they say you shouldnt introduce early whilst breastfeeding but i couldnt take the pain any more. and lucky enough was fine going from dummy to boob. its easy enough to wean them off when they are better.

ewan the dream, cheapest place i fount was amazon

some lovely pics going on facebook you all have gorgeous babies.x

Sorry to see some of you are having a bad time.

The only thing I can offer is how I get Rose to settle when shes restless- either rocking her back and forth or a little Iron Maiden or Rush.

I've also discovered half the stuff I was told when I was pregnant is unnecessary- We're not as regimented about feeding times, temps, storing as recommended, and she's fine. We didn't need half of the stuff I wanted to buy and never did, and we're lucky on the sleep score.... everyone tells me different anyway!

Rose is fine, getting huge. Half of her sleepsuits fit fine, bar ridiculously small feet.
  • Kira I have to hold bens dummy in his mouth till he calms down as sucking on a bottle or his dummy is the only thing to calm him when he's agitated. I dont force the holding it , just hold it lightly so that if he does spit it out he can kinda suck it back in again if that makes sense.

There are some waterbabies classes advertised but they are really expensive £12-15 for 30 mins. You have to sign up for a course of 10 weeks. Has anyone done this?

Emily, I've heard really good things about waterbabies so me and some of my NCT friends are signing up to start this in the next few weeks. One of my colleagues said her son did lessons for 4 years and it was fantastic, and my friend is on her 2nd course of lessons and again loves it, as does her 4 month old daughter.

like seafarerswife said, kind of just held it lghtly and popped it back when he spat it out, he prefers it when i cuddle him into my boob as if i was feeding him still,

different abies like different dummies as well, samuel likes the avent newborn ones with a funny shape. my niece has the cherry shaped dummys, and my nephew has the ordinary dummies, at least we dont get them confused lol

it does take them a while to get used to it and some people disagree with dummies but im for anything that gives them some comfort especially when they are young as crying brings on stress levels which isnt good for them either (or for me for that matter lol)

samuel also calms down when i sing to him while rocking, although christ knows how as my singing is terrible

As usual I've missed loads but just to say we do Waterbabies. Been doing it since the end of November when LO was just 3 months old. I've just signed up for another term as I think its invaluable for safety. Already Leo knows to hold his breath when he hits the water. He is now learning to hold onto the bar at the side of the pool so if he were to have an accident in the bath (not that I would ever leave him obv) he will learn to grab the handle at the side to pull himself up. It isn't cheap but I'm really glad we do it.
