PS If we get more than 90 minutes before feeds at the moment, we are doing well. But most of the time, if we put him down, 15 minutes later he is wide awake and asking to be picked up and to have some attention. Unfortunately, when I'm not looking, he gets fed, rather than reading, play time, etc...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0

welcom whowants2brich! do you have any proper breastfeeding support groups nearby, not just a mum and baby group? Might be worth visiting.
I find BFing much quicker than bottlefeeding, especially when you take in to account the sterilising etc - although R is not used to bottles so that may be why.
If you think that your LO is not satisfied at the breast, it could be that he is a little bit of a lazy sucker (especially if he's used to bottles!) and not getting enough of the hindmilk (that's the fatty, calorie laden good stuff!) - it doesn't come out immediately so they have to work for it. Google Dr Jack Newman, and look up "deep breast compressions". They push the milk forward in the breast, and I know when I am expressing for my freezer stash, I can see the colour change when I do the compressions - it becomes much yellowier/creamier. You can do the breast compressions while feeding (although does take a couple of goes to get the hang and not pop the baby off! stick with it!), and it can make baby a) encouraged to keep going as they may get a squirt of milk causing them to automatically swallow and b) get the fatty milk in them quicker rather than a belly full of watery foremilk.
Although, please remember, that in hot weather, babes will probably want to drink more, just as you do - and nature is clever enough to make the BM more watery when baby wants it to be. Welcome to the world of on-demand BF! We are 11 weeks here and I promise it gets easier the bigger they get, but as I was told by a lovely midwife in the hospital (the minority!), that it is the 4 Ps..it takes Patience, Practice and Perserverance but it all Pays off in the end.
Just a thought, as you are doing a formula top up, is your wife expressing (hand or pump, doesn't matter) at the time of that feed? She will need to do this to trick her body in to thinking that that level of milk is required....remember the more you take the more it makes.0 -
Woo hoo I managed to cook all the veg and blend the fruit whilst Noah watched mickey mouse clubhouse!! He started getting hungry so I'm just feeding him whilst the veg cools down then I can blend it all, freeze it and I'm done for the next 2 weeks!
My kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it though!!

oh and toniq well done on a PM nap! I also struggle with afternoon sleeping, but he has put himself down for not one but TWO naps today so I am in a little bit of shock!
It's excellent as I have had to prepare some tribunal stuff AGAIN and it's pretty much the most important document of the whole case, so mega stressful. It's done now, just scanning it and it gets emailed at 5pm. This is scary stuff and I am worrying about not having a job to go back to at the end of it all (legally they can't do that but ...in reality i'm sure there's ways they could make it happen).0 -

Hello all xx
Leannekr - ((( lots of hugs ))) I'm am sorry you are feeling down, I am afraid that I don't have experience of pnd but I have found this link that may help
http://www.pndsupport.co.uk/
There are some other ladies in here who have suffered/are suffering with pnd you are very much not alone. I understand that you don't want to see a Gp but please try and talk to someone who is a professional. Having a baby is very hard what with all the hormones, tiredness and stress. We have all had tears too. I don't know your situation but feel free to say what you want here we all understand how hard being a mum is but if you are feeling down you will get better, posting on here regularly knowing you are being listened too will help as well xxxx0 -
It's quiet on here tonight!
Leanne I don't have any experiences to share but I hope some of the other ladies will be along later or tomorrow and may be able to help you x
Sammie i'm impressed at your forward planning, well done!
I have got 7 oz of milk in my fridge that I'm going to freeze, does anyone know if I can put Mondays (from about 3pm) milk in the same container as Tuesday's (11am), or do I need to keep them separate?0 -
