I second what Kira says about the weaning. We've just started but it is so much fun watching her little face and her waving her spoon or the food about! DH is loving it too!

We haven't been giving her drinks other than milk, normally from me, occasionally a bottle of expressed, so I haven't got her a cup or anything yet. Am going to look into doidy cups as I know someone who sells them. That could go horribly wrong!!

My munchkin was above the 9th centile last weigh in, having been following it for the last 2/3 months. Moved into 3-6 month clothes about a fortnight ago, so just before 5 months!! I'm not sure where she is on the length etc as they haven't measured her for ages.

Jenjade, celebrating Ellie's birthday in March is an absolutely lovely idea! :grouphug:

Oh, and one of these for Dylan... :naughty:!!

Ro - look, no need to worry about mess ;) !!

We've since learnt to strip her down to nappy first, but she is even more filthy and gooey after puree!

    :D thanks ladies

Mozzy will look up those bowls as I really do need to get some and get prepared!

Second Mozzys request about where to get those bibs ftom crabapple as I have just terry type ones at the mo!
Love the piccie she is gorgeous and clearly loving her experiment with food!

I think that I stress about weaning as I don't want him to be overweight but I know they will close their mouths when they are full. I think it's also the balanced diet thing as our us anything but and has got worse now we have less time!
I think that blw is excellent for some peeps. Unfortunaty I know Dylan will just eat everything thrown in his direction plus I bought a baby cook machine thing so have give it a whirl ! I will still give the finger food when Scott's bigger though so hearing about the recipes will be handy for then. So far I have reduced sugar rusks, baby rice and some organic puree things as a back up, I don't thing I can get more old fashioned rotfl :o

Crabapple thanks for telling Dylan off lol he is quietly sleeping whilst hubby finishes off the fence and gate, he has done a really good job am quite impressed, all should be well unless Dylan can open a gate

So what you all up to today ?

    Xxx

    Hi all,

I'm normally more of a lurker than a poster but was just wondering if those of you who have bought cot wedges for your babies to help with reflux could tell me where you purchased them? I need to buy two for my twins who are both suffering from reflux.

    Thanks :)

Yay! Thread's getting busier! After all those lovely welcome messages (thank you!) after my first post a month ago, I somehow didn't quite get round to posting... Oh well.

My little girl is now 6 weeks old, and a very good baby. We're loving watching her change and develop and make new little sounds!

I'm after some advice on bottlefeeding - would be really grateful if anyone would be willing and able to share their wisdom! Breastfeeding didn't work out for me, so LO is on formula, which is going very well. We started off using the 'ready to drink' cartons simply because it was easier in those first exhausting weeks, but this is getting expensive and so we'd like to switch to the powdered stuff. Does anyone have any advice on adapting the NHS guidelines to the real world? Boil the kettle, wait for 30 mins max, then feed immediately... well, I'm afraid I can't predict the exact moment my LO will be hungry (esp not at night) and don't want her screaming for half an hour! What do others do? Boil and cool down immediately? Make up the milk and leave it ready for when LO wants it?... Any advice much appreciated.

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday. My LO is having her vaccines tomorrow - not looking forward to that, Calpol at the ready...

    Hi Nutella

Wow, 6weeks!!! Congratulations. Flies by hey!!
We also started off on the cartons, and now use the powder. Charlie is 18wks, we switched about 8wks ago or so.

So, there's a few different ways to do it, and obviously the guidelines will always say make each feed fresh, but as most of us know, that doesn't quite work out!!

So, the food standards guidelines state, that when you do need to make in advance, do the following:

    Sterilise bottles
    Boil kettle
Leave to cool for no longer that 30min
    Make up bottle
Cool down quickly in cold water or ice
Store in back of fridge for no longer than 24hrs
Just make sure fridge is nice and cold too

I myself make 6 at a time, and that does us perfectly.

Some ladies boil kettle, fill half with cool boiled water, store in fridge, and when ready to feed, fill rest of bottle to required amount with freshly boiled water and add formula. Should be right temp then.

The main thing is, to kill the bacteria, the powder needs to be added to hot water (boiled water left to cool for 30min roughly)

    Good luck for tomorrow!!!
