    Hi Mirror

How do I go about expressing so I have bottles for the day and night. I have the Medula Swing and pumped 5 minutes off each side just to try it out. When is the best time to express, how long from each side and which side do you put the LO on the next time?

    Kimmy :p
The best time to express is early in the morning, that's generally when most women have more supply. It's recommended to breastfeed for 3 - 4 weeks before offering a bottle as it can cause nipple confusion.

I just expressed until I ran out of milk, the time will differ for all people. Some people simply can't express a thing but this doesn't mean their LO isn't getting any milk. For me, I could express about 6 ounces from my right boob in 5 minutes and about 4 ounces from the left in another 5 minutes - that was first thing in the morning. I sometimes expressed in the evening and I would get much less and it would take longer.

If I remember rightly the advice is express 30 minutes after a feed. This way your boobs have time to refill before the next feed.

i expressed after about 10 days, found it really hard with a manual pump, Ive got a madela swing and it makes things a lot easier. Dont have it up too high though as ive made my nipples bleed before! i find that if i feed him from one boob for two feeds i find the other one is full enough to express, mornings are definitely better, and if not a lot is coming out, take your nipple out and put it back in sometimes it can be in a funny position.

Missy - it isn't naughty , nothing wrong with a dummy. They are supposed to help prevent SIDs and anything that saves your sanity has to be ok!Poppy wouldn't take one but i did try.

and thanks my love, I do feel awful every time i put a dummy in his little mouth but it settles him and stops him from crying and often he falls asleep, i dont do it often maybe a couple of times a day.

does anyone elses baby have a whingey time in the evening where they just get grumpy and cry and squirm about for a couple of hours?

omg loads of chat since this afternoon lets see if i remember it all

inductions, i had the tablets , my waters broken and the liquid drip, had a rough time babys heart beat stopped and ended up with an emergency c section, hemoraged and went into shock. my frst two were on time and natural labours very easy and quick (or was i just young and nieve lol)

all 3 of mine are boys they were all very active, 2 on thier due date and easy 1 two weeks late and awful, everyone is different.

infacol we used on samuel from about 3 weeks and it did help him

missymoo how are you. x glad to see your here

winnie in pooh im too tired this week to feel anything lol samuel has a stinking cold and cough so have been catnapping on the sofa with him as i want to keep him upright because of the coughing.
i felt really guilty at first, still do a bit but he got into such a better routine (until the last few days) im absolutley convinced he wasnt getting enough nutrients from because i really dont eat properly myself tsk tsk bad mummy. have got quite a it frozen though for when i start weaning him.
i do really miss it though its so bonding

redhead samuel was born weighing 9lb 12oz and we went through 9 or 10 packs i believe it was before we went onto the next size as he was quite long and skinny. he is 13 weeks now and in size 3s hope he is in them a while as i stocked up with the mothercare glitch a while ago .the few packs of size 1 we had left i just changed in local boots stores without reciepts (cheeky i knowbut hey ho) oh and i made a nappy cake for a friend

missymoo samuel has a dummy, all babys are different, my first one didnt want a dummy my second did and samuel has a dummy and his muslin to cuddle, if it comforts them its good, and as said already it helps prevent sids from research .

yep whingy time in this house is from around 9.30 till 11 ish at the mo (well actually all day because of his cold at the mo but normally its late evening)

i tend to put the hoover round or dance around to a bit of music when he is having a whinge, he looks at me like im crazy and i get the odd smile

am such a bad mummy, samuel is sitting next to me in my arm, and he loves to stick his hand in his mouth for a chew, well he just shoved it right down then threw up, ouch and he is filling his nappy as we speak so think i may offer to make a cuppa whilst i hand him to hubby, see how long it takes him to notice the smell lol

oh and i went right off tea when pregnant and still can stand it ( idrink hot chocolate instead now) has anyone else had this

nooo mirror i went off tea for the first few weeks of pregnancy but then had to drink it one time and was able to drink it from then, not many cups though, but since ive had the baby, i drink tons!!!

bless your little one! mine really chews his fist and weve had a few gagging events but no actual sick, yet! And as for dancing around the room, i sing to mine, and he just stares at me, I will just add my singing is appaling, cat yeowling springs to mind!

Well baby roo slept from 10.30 - 7.30, waking up every 3 hours, practically on the dot for feeding, he whinged a bit when i put him back in his crib but nothing major.

awww jenjade, I love cuddling bubba, hes so warm and i love all his little noises he makes, i spend a lot of my days just having a cuddle as I dont want to miss a minute of him.

here's to all the mummies of slightly older children... the jelly belly you get after you've had your baby, when does it go or how can i make it go? I'm back to my pre preg weight, but this jelly belly is horrid! All squidgy and wiggly, no idea what to do with it?

Roo's found his hands he keeps going cross eyed looking at them lol
