kimmymark, your doing well getting to day 10. are you letting lo feed from one side long enough so they get the first milk and the hind milk which is fattier. for the first 10 dys i believe its mostly colostrum so proper milk so to speak should be coming in nows
samuel was feeding every1 1/2 to 2hrs and at times felt like he was constantly feeding so i know what you mean. i started expressing at a couple of weks so huby could take turns in feeding him wether it was during the day or the night so i could catch up on sleep.
if you do express use an electric pump as its so much easier than a manuel one.

i feel breastfeeding is quite time consuming and hard to establish a routine but so much easier to whip them out than sterilising bottles and sorting formula etc
if you really want to stop then do it and try not to feel guilty you have to do whats best for you but it is great bonding time and i am really missing feeding samuel this week.
samuel has just come off breast at 13 weeks and we have put him on aptimal as its supposedly the closest to breast milk.

Kimmy- it is your decision but it is very normal for them to feed a lot to begin with, especially during growth spurts.

    Hi Mirror

How do I go about expressing so I have bottles for the day and night. I have the Medula Swing and pumped 5 minutes off each side just to try it out. When is the best time to express, how long from each side and which side do you put the LO on the next time?

    Kimmy :p

it will take a bit of time to store up enough for day and night feeds this early on but basically the general rule is more you express/feed the more milk your body will make.
the medula swing is one of the best ones around at the mo so good that you have that.
breast milk will stay in the fridge for up to 5 days at that age i used to do about 2/3 oz in each bottle you will soon find out how much they are drinking at each feed and pump enough accordingly.

for me the best time to express was when i was feeding samuel i would express of the other breast (little tricky but you get the hang of it)
or when i went up for a nice warm bath/shower as the warmth for some reason started the milk flowing.

whilst i was expressing i used to offer samuel one side and when he had had a good feed and pulled off himself after burbing ect i would offer him the other side.

it all seems a bit confusing at first but once you are well into breast feeding and expressing you will get to know which side to use it will just feel so much fuller to you. (p.s. if hubby does night feeds make sure your well padded if your having a long sleep otherwise you will wake up soaked lol)

i cant remember who it is but on the parentings thread there is a lady who has trained in breastfeeding, she is fantastic with advice and has the number of the breast feeding support group. (is there any sure start centres near you, i went to the breastfeeding cafe for a few weeks to get advice and meet new mums)

is it still hurting when you feed, mine stopped after hurting after 3 weeks, but nipple shields apparently really help although ive never used them as by the time i was able to go out to buy some it had stopped hurting

Nope, sorry, still huge and pregnant :(.
Back from the consultant (well the registrar at least). Not looking good- baby is now 4/5 engaged which is better than Tuesday, and cervix a little more soft and shorter but still not dilated- so unsuitable for a sweep today. My Bishop score is apparently only 2- more than 8 is needed for successfull vaginal birth, and less than 8 means induction unlikely to succeed.
Because i am 41w today, they have booked me to be admitted in for induction next weds when i'm 41+5. Will have to hope it happens naturally before then...
