Hi Lucy, several of us have had the same problem. Amelie may still be too small for one at the moment but I'd definitely try a sleeping bag at nighttime once she's big enough. It's helped us no end!

Hi everyone, hope everyone is ok.

Just a question regarding taking formula out of the house.

Our LO was very poorly last few weeks (10wks today) and is now on special formula (Nutramigen) as he has an allergy but no idea what yet.

He has vastly improved on this, but was having alot more reflux so HV and GP advised galviscon with it. And so far alot better.

But its says on the tin (formula) that it needs to be stored in the fridge and outside only for 2 hours. Now we have not been out this long that he would need 2 feeds.

What would the best way to do this? Take out a sterile bottle full of water (boiled then cooled) and take out the formula in small containers.

Any advice would be great (He is also full of cold, and now started teething too, bless him :) )

samuel still feeds every three hours so when he has his bottle,
if im going out i boil the kettle and fill to 5oz and put it in a tommee tippi insulated bottle holder (cheapest place i fount was boots think £7 for 2)

take the measured out powder with me in a tub that has 3 sperate bits and mix when he needs it. i find 5oz in that 3 hrs is just right or if they go longer as they tend to when out just fill the bottle and tip away what water you dont need.

    hope that makes sense

LO was hard work all afternoon and into the early evening. Hubby somehow managed to get her to nod off about 9 and after that it was all pretty peaceful, even when we moved her upstairs to the moses basket and for feeds. She did about a 4.5 hour sleep too, which was just lovely :)

She had breakfast about 8.30 and went straight back down. Still sleeping now but judging by the last few days my peace will be shattered pretty soon!

(I guess that means I should do the washing up before she wakes... or I could just stay on the computer!)

Hi. Don't know what we should do. Amelie is happy to fall asleep on us after feeding, but as soon as we put her in her basket, she wakes up and won't settle. She is forever trying to go for her fists even when she's had a good feed.

Lucy- if she is fist sucking after a feed, it is self soothing which is good. Confused me at first!

    Hi Lucy

Charlie is the same. Especially with the sucking of the hands. We use the sleepsuits with the built in mittons, and have given him a soother, which has really helped settle him.

    Hi Ladies,

Hope all ok and not to tired!

I had a bad night last night, Poppy wasn't for settling and after her 2am feed, was sick as soon as I put her back in her basket. I had to change her sleepsuit and vest and all her bedding, I've even had to take the moses basket hood off for washing as it was covered!

We went to see my GP for our check-up this morning (technically our 6 week check, just very belated!) I was really shocked that the Doctor didn't check my scar or take my blood pressure. I've not had my scar looked at since I was discharged from the maternity unit after having Poppy and I thought he would check my blood pressure after having severe pre-eclampsia! He couldn't wait to get rid of me and didn't even check Poppy, think he was slightly phased by all her problems and medication. Was a complete waste of a journey! I'm not to worried about Poppy being checked as she sees her Consultant Paed every 2 weeks and I feel they are more qualified than a GP, but I was hoping that he would just check my scar as it looks quite red to me (not sure if that's normal?) and make sure my blood pressure has settled. My Mum said they are also supposed to check that your uterus has shrunk back and is in the correct place/

Anyway its a gorgeous day here so going to attempt to take Poppy out with my dogs!

    Have a good day.
    xx

    Hello all.

Jannine seems like you are both settling in well at home and Poppy is full of mischief. We've not had the vomit as bad as that yet, but Aaron was sick over his swaddle blanket this morning, this minute I'd put him in it, very annoying.

R.e the fist sucking, we have it here too, but we do give Aaron a dummy too, he doesn't always take it, and it never seems to stay in his mouth long, they're normally littering the floor, and needing sterilised constantly.

Afm, well we bit the bullet and bought some hypo allergenic formula yesterday (£17.50 for half a tub  ) he's not been on it quite 24 hours yet, but things do seem to be improving slightly, I've actually managed to put him down to sleep, albeit in his car seat, but it's an improvement on sleeping nowhere but on me or OH. Have the pediatrician at the Childrens hospital tomorrow, so hopefully they agree about the formula and we can get it on prescription as it's far too expensive for us to buy long term. Will just need to see what happens :o

Janninew it is incredible that after major surgery (c-section) there is almost no follow-up!! Is there a different doctor in the practice you can go to? My 6 week check was my doctor asking me if I had any problems, me saying 'not really', her asking about contraception and that was it. Don't know what I was expecting but I felt like I had wasted one or her appointment slots! I've never had a section but I would definitely want my scar checked to make sure it was healing correctly!

Bailyb I usually make the bottles as normal and out it in the bag or car. It has been so cold that for 3 hours or so, I wouldn't be worried. If it was summer i would have used a cool bag, or your own suggestion of sterilised bottles of water and add the powder when needed. Gilly Ive never heard that water needs to be 70 degrees. I've probably made at least half of Daniels bottles with tepid water. As long as it was warm enough to melt the powder and had actually been boiled, it did for me. Oops!

I had an evening out last nit and Oh put the two to bed on his own for the first time. All seemed grand until 6:30am when Daniel woke up soaked to the skin and his bed wringing. OH had forgotten to change his nappy before bed!! Luckily I had put a booster into the totsbots when I had changed him or it might have been a 3am wakeup! So poor baby had to have a quick bath before his breakfast this morning while OH stripped the cot :-)

Anyone got nice plans for mothers day?

Interesting that a few of you with LO's similar age to mine, are having the same issues with refusing to nap and needing constant attention. I have to confess (to my shame as i feel a bad mummy for complaining), it is doing my head in a bit atm.
She is sooooo interested and alert and into everything, that she gets bored and grizzles after about 5 minutes of anything, cant put her in her chair, on her mat even for a quick wee without a grizzle which usually turns to full wailing. Its more exhausting than the lack of sleep days. I'm almost wishing the days away till bed time so that i can have a few minutes without a grizzle monkey to deal with.
I've been doing pram walks with her, and they get longer each day, used to be 20-30 minutes, yesterday, it was 2 hours, as it is the only way to prevent the nonstop grizzle cycle. My hips are really not upto walks that long so i hurt in the evenings when i get back!

Have tried to take her to visit grandparents during the days , to share the load and have a break so to speak as i keep being advised in books, by the HV etc, and all that happens is they give her a quick cuddle for a few minutes till she grizzles/wails then hand her back to mummy, so no break at all really.

Similar here, though he will nap, but usually only on someone. As soon as he's put down he normally starts wailing and wanting more food. He did sleep for a couple of hours on our bed this morning though, so will try that again tomorrow!

Have you got anything nice planned for the wedding anniversary Kira? Ours is the same day as yours, can't believe how fast 2 years has gone :) I think we're just going to have a takeaway dinner...

Sorry to say it but does depend on your little one. Is he following a line in the red book? Poppy is quite a small one and tends to gain less than a lb a month. She probably was gaining aorund 3oz's week at that age. Just found a thing online that says the avergae is between 3-5.5oz's a week at 6 months.

Thanks - no he's dropped from the 50th centile to under the 25th -this is since I've started weaning him. The HV isn't too worried she says he's just a very active baby - always rolling around and trying to crawl. In the last 3 weeks he's only put on 8 oz and I wondered if this was anything like OK? Not to worry - he seems happy enough.
