In case it helps any of the reflux baby mummies and daddies, we have just started using a reflux wedge in her crib, it has a steep angle, so you have to use it with a special sheet with a velcro support that you strap her into (a bit like velcro pants!), to stop her sliding down into a heap at the bottom.
I was really doubtful about it, and thought she would wail being put in it, but she hasnt complained at all, and has been sleeping so well and soundly, other than wind problems (more on that to come) since we got it. I would thoroughly recommend it for anyone having reflux problems with their LO's.
On the subject of wind and poo nappies, anyone who has 100% BF who can comment? Up till now, LO has done 5-8 pooey nappies per day. This week, that has dropped right off, first to one or two, and now none for nearly 2 days. Reading up, everything says for BF babies, this is absolutely fine, and is fine up to 10 days! So not that worried about it, BUT since this started, LO has had terrible bum wind problems, and seems to be straining and wiggling to parp all day, and getting quite distressed by it at times. It seems to be a bit of a co-incidence that the two things happened the same time. Has anyone else found the same thing happened? Did it sort itself out as the baby's system got used to it? I've been giving her gentle massage, bicycling the legs etc, and it is getting some wind out, and she has been parping all day, but i can tell there is alot more. I've resorted to ordering some gripe water from Amazon to try, which should arrive tomorrow.

Gilly, i had a carrier, which i tried her in and she SCREAMED everytime until i took her out. I've just had delivered a custom made Mei Tei, which i've tried her in once. She wasnt convinced, but didnt scream, so i'm going to give it another go for 5 minutes tomorrow, and try and build it up.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Iv got his crib wedged, his pram wedged. Upright 30 minutes after feeds etc.Waiting on an appointment with the pediatrician coming through unfortunately. I think his reflux is severe tbh
p.s i found colief good for bottom wind xThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Gilly, Is his crib just propped up? We had that done, and it did help, but this reflux wedge and sheet has made so much difference, as the angle is so much steeper than you can do just propped up.
The one we have is nearly the same as this wedge and sling.

We saw the GP last week, who prescribed CJ ranitidine. He wouldnt give her Gaviscon, as he said its no use for BF babies, as you cant mix it with EBF and cant put it in their bottle. TBH i think its the volume of stuff coming up and choking her that bothers her, as much as or maybe more than the acid itself.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Kira - Ella is 90% bf and is having pooing issues too. She tends to go 2-3 times a week but is straining and grunting all the time in between with plenty of trumps. Have been trying water, and sometimes with a bit of orange juice in that someone suggested as well as bicycle legs but nothing changed yet. She last went on Weds morning, so am thinking there should be one soon, and it'll no doiubt be massive!Little lady arrived 13/12/110

Aww. Gilly, poor you, poor OH and poor baby..
It is hard but we'l get through it. Just seen your post about the ranitidine. We're on infant gavsicon, ranitidine (0.5ml 3 x a day) and carobel in all his feesa to thicken. GP has said we'l probably get lozec from the pediatrician and possibly medicated formula. With Aaron its definitely the acidity thats bothering him, even around his bum is all red and inflamed now because even his poos are acidic.Youl find the amount of acid is maybe more because breast milk is generally thinner than formula so Im surprised your doctor didnt offer something to try and gel her stomach, as far as Im aware gaviscon and carobel can be made into pastes and given that way for B/f babies and that would help weigh her feed down.
The ranitidne will only reduce the acidity (i think) not stop it coming up if that nakes sense? The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

We have similar problems here, he usually only poos every other day, and you can tell if it's poo day by the squeals followed by loud farts...or wet noises! He was sick loads two nights in a row after we tried gripe water, and infacol gave him colic, so I'm still looking for a solution. It is uncomfy enough to momentarily stop him feeding.
Think we might have our first baby cold brewing. No jabs this week if it is one.0 -
Gilly, Yep, you are right, from what the GP said, the ranitidine is an anti-acid. I think a gelling/thickener would suit LO more, to stop the volume coming up. He said you could mix up the gaviscon as a paste, but that it is messy and a faff, and bf babies dont like taking it as you cant make the paste with EBM. Hence he gave us the Xantac.
Will have to see what happens with it. At the mo, if we can sort the gas problem, now we have the wedge, we might be ok. Got an appointment with the plastic surgery team tomorrow to discuss her tongue tie too, so that might help her feed better and take in less wind maybe. I don t think hers is too bad though, so not sure if they will do anything about it or not.
Aimless, glad its not just CJ. Will see what the babys bliss gripe water does when it arrives. I did read a recommendation that said to gently wipe over the baby's butt hole with cotton wool soaked in plain warm water a few times, and that that would stimulate things to produce some wind, and maybe a poo. I might give that a goo tomorrow if no poo shows up as that will be day 3..Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!
