Jannine- I think that pigpens advice is good. After all you have been through I think it would be normal to wish things had gone differently so talking about things might help get it out if your system xx
Hello Lucy and big congratulations :j well done!!
Hello all x0 -
Congratulations Lucy, what a lovely name you've chosen
Elliot managed to vomit on my last clean pair of trousers that fit properly, aargh. Washing now done and I'm squeezed into a pair that is really a bit tight still... DH's birthday today, so I'm going to try and cook a meal if Elliot will stop eating for long enough. Elliot has been sick quite a lot after feeds recently - tried burping him, keeping him upright for a bit, but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions welcome!
Eeew, major nappy filling noise... oh well, I'll be nice seeing as it's DH's birthday and do this one, even though it's really his turn.0 -
How I hate that sound. Jack had his cousin's birthday party today and fell asleep as soon as I got there!
Been really clingy recently, hope I can go and get a cuppa without him shouting to me."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Jannine.. I felt the same after DS3 who was 2 months early.. in SCBU 3 weeks .. I advise you talk to everyone about it.. see if you can get a follow up appointment with your midwife or consultant about what happened and get some closure.. don't just let it stew.. you can't go back and change things but you can accept the way things are.. it is so hard being thankful your baby is alive and doing well and greiving for what you don't/didn't/can't have.
Thanks pigpen, think I will have to speak to my Doctor and see if we can arrange something. I haven't spoken to anybody about what has happened and why it happened, so I'm sure it will help.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Congrats Lucy!
I'm an expert on tiny clothes and I've found Asda to be best, they have quite a good range of tiny baby clothes for reasonable prices. Poppy weighs 5lb 5oz and tiny baby fit her quite well. Also I have washed some newborn babygrows from next on a hot wash and put them in the tumble dryer on a high heat to shrink them! They are still quite big, but you can just fold the sleeves back!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Ro hope everything is ok and you get an appointment for your LO soon
Jenjade hope all is going well with Ellie
Jannine the special care unit your daughter was in are meant to give you info on counselling services specifically tailored for parents of pre term babies as it is now recognised as being a major source of long term stress. If they have not done so please ask your GP to refer you.
I never got any due to my situation. My older son was delivered at 27+1 when I was away for the weekend at my cousins wedding! Despite having the additional stress of having to live in a hotel and having his father in a war zone apparently I didnt qualify as I was from out of area! :rotfl: I could really have done with it though as like you I was experiencing a whole mixture of emotions ranging from anger and self doubt to complete confusion and a whole lot more in between, but mostly an overwhelming feeling that it had somehow been my fault. It took me a very long time to come to terms with this.
In truth it nearly destroyed my marriage as by the time my husband got home our son had gone from initially only being given hours to live, to just hanging on and no more, to having life saving surgery, (at a different hospital yet again...which was a whole other ordeal in itself) to being mostly fully recovered. He could not relate in any way to how I was feeling as to him our boy was fine despite having a bit of a scare at the start. We worked through it and are still married now with 2 more children but it took me 5 years to even entertain the possibility of having more because of the effect it had on me.
Lucy I totally second asda for smaller baby clothes as the hats that come in the starter set are a perfect size for a smaller baby and the scratch mitts are small enough to actually stay on too.Tesco ones are quite good too. Could you maybe swaddle her in extra blankets in her pram if you cant find a pram suit? I did this with my younger son as I couldnt get him a pramsuit to fit.

Thanks koala mummy - really sounds like u went through the mill with your LO and can't imagine dealing with it whilst oh away. When u say about the guilt thing I think that must be and is the hard part, accepting its not your fault just the luck of the draw. I do think it is very hard for oh's to comprehend how we feel, until it happens to u. On the more positive side for me I am determined to not let worries ruin watching LO grow and be thankful that nothing is a major proper problem yet.

Hi Ladies,
Feeling a bit down tonight. Its my own fault I was just reading all the pregnancy threads (mainly because I'm nosey!) and I always upset myself reading about other ladies being pregnant. I feel like I was 'robbed' of most of my pregnancy (silly I know) but I was actually looking forward to getting a big tum, and I loved to sit and stroke my bump. I know its crazy to think like this as I have a gorgeous daughter in her moses basket right next to me but you can't help how you feel. I told my husband who said I should be grateful that I missed out on feeling huge and getting swollen ankles etc, but I still feel I missed out.
Hubby has just gone to Asda so think I will txt him to bring me some treats home to cheer myself up.
We are off for our first special care baby meeting tomorrow morning, they are held monthly for parents of babies that have been in Special Care - looking forward to catching up with some mummies and daddies and of course Poppy's little friends!
xx
I feel a bit like this too, although probably different reasons from you. I found out I was pregnant at about 5 months, on November 10th, and only had 2 months to get used to it as I had an 8 week premmie on 23rd Jan, but I was in hospital two weeks before this, and a week after. The baby was also in NICU for 4 weeks which was stressful. So it wasn't particularly too great, and after having the baby by csection, I don't think I felt that elation that other people seem to have.0
