Didnt have my chamomile tea last night, and LO wouldnt sleep- grizzled and/or cried till nearly 3am. Knackered today.
Problem is, now she has been sleeping nearly non stop since lunch time, with feeds between sleeps. She really really needed the sleep as she didnt sleep yesterday afternoon either, but i'm worried if she sleeps too much now, she wont sleep tonight again. But not sure really how i can stop her sleeping even if i decide to wake her up. What should i do?

Smileyface - can't remember if it was me that was talking about that? I have done a bit of controlled crying (only did it after 6 months as recommended ) and i tend to leave her 5 mins before going in to her. Not sure if it worked really as i wasn't very consistant. Strange though as the self settling seems to have just suddenly clicked for LO. When i feed her before bed/during the night now if she doesn't fall back to sleep i put her back in cot and she nods off after a few mins with no crying!

Think it is helping her sleep longer too as last night i had my best night ever with her, she slept 7-5 then back down till half 7. She has never been a good sleeper so that was amazing!

I remember living off noodles when Poppy was tiny. Much better now i can stick her in highchair with a sandwhich and enjoy my own lunch.

Kira - i wouldn't worry about her sleeping a lot during the day too much at that age , hopefully it won't affect night sleep.

We wake Aaron up during the day/early evening for feeds Kira, with no issue and he generally will go back to sleep easy enough. We try to pre-empt his feeds because if he wakes of his own accord, he is ravenous and almost chokes himself crying  At night short of setting an alarm clock (which I refuse to do) we just have to go with it :( If you want LO to wake up you could try a bath or something?

  • Thanks wendz. I'm sure its attention crying. Bless her, so tough not tilo comfort her. Lo is down now, we'll see how long for...hoping she'll go through to 7!
I've been a but naughty tonight. I'm back at work full time now, and fed up of coming home, cooking, washing and only getting a small amount of time with Azra, so I did nothing tonight except play with her.oh kept asking what I was going to cook!! Nothing!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about your lo sleeping kira. See how she goes? If u have a bad night, the then avoid her sleeping too much again, but if u have a good night, bonus!

Arghhh, Aaron will not take more than 1oz of feed, he is taking 1oz, maybe 1 and a half at most, then falling asleep, waking up an hour later, taking another feed of the same amount, and then the pattern continues. Even our usual fail safe of nappy changing isn't keeping him awake.

We're wasting so much milk, breast and formula, as I make up 3 and 4 oz bottles

Also my supply seems to be going a bit crap, they did say at 2 weeks your level of hormones drop and because I'm only expressing I would see a decline, but rather than getting between 3-4oz each pump, I'm only getting 1-2oz :( Boo to that. I'm not spending 30 minutes every 3/4 hours, to get 1oz of milk!

Going to start this with the usual...every baby is different :) IME DD never slept less when she'd napped 'too' much during the day. And I still find the same is true today. I've even put her down at 4:30pm for an hour then she still goes to bed at 6:30pm and sleeps through.

I remember around your lo's age people asking similar questions and I think the advice was to put her to bed earlier. I think in the early days we were putting her upstairs in her basket about 10pm. Then we moved it (gradually) to about 8pm. And we found the sleeping improved. But it is really just trial and error :) Sorry!

Try more skin to skin. Are you expressing early in the morning? That's when supply is best. Could you make up 2oz bottles of breastmilk instead? When I was trying to express I got a bit frustrated at pouring it down the sink and someone suggested to me to freeze in 2oz portions.

I express every 3/4 hours including middle of the night and early morning :( I'm drinking gallons of fennel tea and constant skin to skin because he won't settle unless he's buried into my chest. :(

Hugs Gilly. After a bit of googling it seems the recommendation is to pump every 2 - 3 hours which makes sense as usually that's how often a BF baby would feed. The 'recommendation' is to feed a maximum of every 3 hours timing from the start of the feed. So I guess that makes sense if pumping. Are you just pumping? Or are you breastfeeding as well?

No just pumping :( I've had loads of midwives, breast feeding co-ordinators, doctors, attempting to get him to latch on and noone can manage it :rotfl: I think the majority of the medical profession here have seen my boobs!

I can just about manage every 3/4 hours, as obviously with OH being back at uni/work I'm on my own sometimes, and with trying to look after LO, look after myself and express it's not easy. Managed to get 2 and a half ounce out just there, and I'll be due to express about 1ish again, which I will get up and do.
