Hi Everyone,
Not quite ready to join you yet but will be there soon!
Is anyone using washable nappies? I think I recall that 4nnabella was planning to and I was hoping you might have some comments on them.
We have gone with BumGenius ones and I have just done the first double wash of them to get them ready
We are the only couple in our antenatal class that is planning on using them and the teacher said in her experience they do get used but only about 50/50 with disposables.
If I can get above 50% I will be happy as this is 50% less spend on disposables and 50% less nappies being dumped in landfill!
Thanks
Icey xx
I haven't actually started using mine yet. Only because the ones I bought (fuzzibuns) are 'birth to potty', and even on the smallest setting seem a bit too big, so I'm a bit apprehensive about leaks. I bought a few xs bumgenius on eBay the other day, am just waiting for them to arrive, and then will give them a go. Hopefully they'll turn up tomorrow so will just need to give them a couple of washes to strip them and they'll be good to go... I'm planning on starting off with cloth during the day and a disposable at night and going from there.
I've heard nothing but good things about bumgenius nappies though so hopefully they'll be fine!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -

I spoke to soon, from 11-1 he isa grumpy grumpy boy, every night, and tonight was no exception, he's down now, but took both me and OH to do it. I dread 11 o clock coming every nightThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

A few q uestions would be gratful for some answers:) thanks
How do people go about expressing? i find as soon i star DD cries! was planning on doing it during the night after her nighfeed but was too tired so did it after her first feed.
how do you combine breast and formula? do u use one bottle expressed then the next formula or top the expressed up with the formula?
I'm thinking off aking a bottle of expressed out with me 2mo incase i chicken out of feeding in public but as DD is feed on demand how do i go about it with the bottle? Should i warm it up before going out and keep it in a bottle warmer or warm up when out 4 lunch but then what do i think the bottle in?0 -
Also if expressing at night do you stay in the bedroom or find it easier to leave and go in the longue or somewhere elseso you can have the light on and not risk LO waking up0

Laura- I'm too lazy to express at night! I do last thing in the evening, and after LO feeds in the morning. I mix expressed and breast in one bottle- for feeding immediately, half and half.. formula is from just boiled kettle. I never warm a bottle, mw on ward told me breast was room temp, and formula handed out was room temp- she said it was creating more work by warming, as LO would soon demand that only.... If I'm going out her bottles aren't in a bottle warmer, which I don't see the need for- they're nestled against the cotton wool in her bag.
I found she cried when I expressed- the imp was jealous! Gave her a bottle at the same time, and after a short glaring session at the pump, she soon goes to sleep.
Rose went out at 2200 yestarday- and woke with Daddy at 0700. I know I had a good sleeper, but this one surprised me! She's giving off to Richard Hammond at the moment- Top Gear's on. Injections today....0 -
Urgh what a night. Im leaning towards reflux again, every feed he has taken an ounce and then just screamed and screamed
proper im angry and in pain screaming then wont take anymore. At my wits end!!

sending hugs to you, Gilly.
Jack was a lazy sod this morning, didn't get up til 7.15, then spent 20 mins yapping to his dad after his bottle, before falling asleep again. Still sleeping now, but he barely slept yesterday so was cranky last night.
Now looking for a new job for OH, as he just found out his work are making him do 3 months nightshift which really screws us up. Means I'm leaving about 8 and he's not getting in til 9, half 9."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Gilly - carp nite here too. Not the screaming but my back pain meant had to wake hubby to start with then fed on and off until 5:45 am from 2:00 with just the odd few mins LO slept. Hope the reflux can be eased in some way, what a nightmare !
Eyeliner sorry to hear about oh's work that's pants
Re the expressing I have stopped for a bit as my back can't cope with bf/formula and exp at moment but when I did avoided doing it at night. Usually preferred first thing and last thing at night but tried to do when I could. I did it in lounge where sitting more comfortable as pump noisy.

Finally given in and phoned Gp re back as at night as soon as lay down its murder (and I really really mean that... Started 3 wks after birth) cannot lay on my back at all and have to lie on side but pain spasms in lower back into pelvic area. I used to have cushion between legs whilst pregnant but now that hurts pelvis so cue hot water bottle and couple of paracetamol that do not a lot.
She advised anti inflammatory ibuprofen as pacetamol not sufficient (she said ok with bf) she said could be caused by position at birth, pelvic changes after birth, bad positioning and bending for LO eg picking up from moses basket. She said if can't cope go back but don't want to give stronger drugs yet and if continues physio. Said how long is reasonable she said could be better in 6 wks si will see how go. Going to think about raising lo's bed. Really struggle holding him when bottle feeding so will rethink positions.
Also need to keep moving wish could go out with pram but it is too cold at mo0
