Hi Ladies,
Hope all are ok and not to tired.
I'm breastfeeding Poppy but I know the hospital recommend NUK teats , I think these are only available from Boots. Another lady I know on the SCBU bought Tommee Tippe bottles and the Nurses said they cause terrible wind and colic. I'm not an expert as I've never used a bottle, but that's what I've heard! Poppy suffered from reflux, so the Doctor has prescribed her Infant Gaviscon and it really works well.
Jusy watched OBEM and had to turn it off, was in floods of tears when that lady was having her baby and it got stuck. Brought back so many memories of Poppy being born and intubated in theatre. All I can say is thanks god for these Doctors.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I'd never heard of them, but its what the SCBU use for teats and dummies, so I imagine they must be good. I was in Boots earlier and saw them, apparently the teats are much softer than other brands.
We had a discharge meeting yesterday and its a week on Sunday!! Poppy is coming home on oxygen so I'm waiting to have that fitted at home which is why the date isn't sooner. Loads to sort out before but at least the end is in sight!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I think it is wonderful that things have moved on to the point where they offer discharge planning from SCIBU. I got less than 24 hours notice that my son was possibly ready for discharge the next day. It came as a total shock and I found the first few weeks very tramatic.0

They don't usually have discharge meetings, most Mums get told that morning that they can go home. We had one for Poppy as she is coming home on oxygen and will be having an operation on her heart so we had to have a get together with our Consultant, my GP, Health Visitor, Paediatric Nurse and me and hubby.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Congratulations jannine, must be lovely to know that your little girl is doing so well and able to come home soon:j
LO produced a lake of poo earlier for me to clear up, then screamed the place down when I had to change all her clothes from the fallout - she still really hates being naked!
I was told that babies, esp breastfed, can go for days without bowel movements and the only thing to be concerned about is if when it does come it is hard. Also some foods can affect your milk and pass on to LO (mine was really unsettled and very windy after I had a curry) but some of that is individual so your baby will make it clear what to avoid.
Just had a very peaceful afternoon while she slept. Prob should have done some housework before DH got home... but too late now as she needs another feed;):heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

We're still using the smallest teats, I think to be honest, a lot of it is down to him gulping the milk down, he's a hungry wee monkey. Sometimes he has no wind at all though, so maybe we just need to persevere. He is an angel the majority of the time
Can I suggest Dr Browns feeding system. We used it all the time in SCBU and then numerous times they proved successful when I was working in the community.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Sorry I know this is not really the place but I have to let it all out somewhere as my OH wont be back for months and my friends are all child free so cant really relate.
Today, or yesterday now, all seemed to mostly be going to plan, oldest son of to school happily enough, younger son staying home from nursery as running a temperature and seemed to have quite a bad cold, baby girl teething so ever so slightly out of sorts but mostly smiling. All normal every day stuff with nothing to worry about.
That all changed at 15:10 though. I got a call from oldest sons school saying that he was on his way to hospital in an ambulance as he had collapsed during a PE lesson and had been unresponsive for some time. I went to hospital straight away where my younger son promptly started being sick everywhere, and my 8 month old daughter for the first time ever in her life decided that she was hungry and wanted fed! In my panic to get there I forgot to pack anything. Her formula is Neocate which is prescription only, and thus far she had refused all solids vehemently.
My big boy has been admitted as an inpatient but I had to ask my sister to stay with him as my younger son apparently has slapped cheek syndrome which means he is hazardous to anybody with a compromised immune system so couldnt go on the ward. Please nobody misunderstand I understand and fully accept the reasons...I just found it quite hard.
I am sick with worry about tomorrow and the test results and cant sleep in case anything happens over night.
Am I a sick twisted individual to be happy that these circumstaces led to my daughter taking her first ever solid foods?0 -
Koala really sorry you've had such a tough time, and really hope things go well tomorrow with your son. I think there's nothing wrong with finding a positive out of all the negative you've had to deal with.
Good luck with tomorrow xDFD February 2012

Poor you! What a day you had. I think given all the shock , worry and upset going down, that maybe you have tried to pull a positive out of it all whether knowingly or subconsciously, and your daughter eating was your positive. On face value does it seem a funny reaction, possibly , but sick or twisted? Certainly not, and a strangely understandable one, yes.
Sometimes you have to focus on a plus to survive the knocks with your sanity intact!
Hope you and your 3 are all well, happy and together soon..
