My OH is here. I think the main thing I'm struggling with is the fact that she seems to want feeding all the time. I've been trying to express some milk to give her at other times but I feel like between feeding her and expressing, I've always got *something* attached to a boob... Plus she's so greedy, there's often not much left to express! I'm just wondering whether she's having a bit of a growth spurt and maybe in a couple of days it'll settle down. I've got my hv coming round on Thursday anyway so if I still feel the same then I'll talk to her too.

ETA - plus a problem is the fact that she normally falls asleep when nursing. No matter how long I leave it, as soon as I try and put her down so I can sleep too, she wakes up.

  • How old is she 4nnabella? Typical growth spurts are 2 weeks 6 weeks 3 months 4 months and 6 months. However, if she's not actually having one she may well be coming up for one, in which case she'll be feeding lots and lots to increase your supply so you have enough for when she is having the growth spurt if that makes sense. ref the waking when being put down, I totally know the feeling! Have you tried warming the sheets up as it might be going from nice warm mummy to cold moses basket sheets that wake her (it was with Sophia). We used to turn the hairdryer on to try and get her off to sleep when she was tiny too. Hope you get some sleep soon.

  • Sorry to hear your having a bad time 4nnabella. It's horrible when you don't sleep well.

We had another good night:)Sure it will not continue!

Sometimes at the beginning off a feed DD tends to gulping too much down so she ends coughing/crying is there anything i can do to stop her from taking in too much at once.

I expressed again this morning and managed 3oz, how much should they be getting per feed?

Hugs To those that need them x

4nnabella- it is very tough the sleep deprivation. U have been doing such hard work with the feeding. We have and are struggling doing
Formula/breast (although stopped for 2 days as struggling with back ache)/ and expressing when I can. My supply is very limited but am loath to stop just want to do what I can. Hubby had to do feeds through night couple of nights ago as could not sit or lie as was in pain still am on and off. Not sure what to suggest as as new at this baby lark as you but I would have cracked by now and given formula at night for a couple of feeds maybe 7:30pm and 10:30pm and gotten hubby to do those (as he does for me now). I try to sleep (!!) from 9pm to 3:30am feed but LO usually wakes anytime from 1:30am but this gives a small window if sanity but when LO is up I find it v diff to get him back off

Hope things improve I know u say you had an hour sleep but u need more hun xx

I can only tell u my very limited experience with Scott, he gulps when he is very hungry but we realised we needed to up the quantity of formula and he is not as ravenous at the next feed time. Probably best to seek advice from your hv as they can help. I don't know the guidelines on feeding so don't want to give I wrong info sorry

Koala's posts on reflux got me thinking about my lo. i don't think she has usual reflux as she isnt sick much, but i am wondering if she has silent reflux. It answers so much. Not sure if i should see Gp this week or wait till our 6 week check? Poor baby.

Hi Kira, the HV expressed her concern about silent reflux with us, what makes you think Claudia may have it? Is she unable to settle on her back? That was the main indicator our HV asked us to look out for.

4nnabella, have you tried feeding lying down in bed? Then when your lo finishes feeding you detach and roll away to sleep - it may be worth a try. Wear a warm top as baby cant have the duvet covering her and barricade the bed so she cant roll off.

Some lucky people can actually sleep while feeding but i never could!

If your worried bout reflux kira go and see the dr to see what they say.

We put jacob in the snow today :-) totally not interested!

Gilly, arching back during and after feeds, hoarse wheezy breathing sound, lots of hiccuping, comfort feeding, lots of crying, sudden screams, being able to drop off in my arms but waking and crying when lain down..... think thats most of it!!
