4nnabella - Its quite scary when they first sleep for a longer stretch, I had to poke her to make sure she was ok :o

:rotfl:I did this too. When Noah slept for 7 hours for the first time I woke up with a fright lept out of bed and poked him to make sure he was breathing (despite the fact we have an alarm sensor pad!).

  • Took Ella for her first swim today. Was going to wait until after her jabs as I thought you had to, but then read on NHS site somewhere that it's old advice to do with when polio was around and it could be transmitted through the water or something. Got her some swimming nappies and the cutest little cossie (those in the FB group can see her as my profile pic - too cute!). I was worried whether she would be OK or not, but gave her a half feed about 40 mins before so wasn't hungry. in the end she seemed to really enjoy it. Was just taking it all in, having a float around. Started to whinge after about 20 mins as was getting tired but happy for the rest of it. Will definitely be taking her again soon.

i cant wait to take Ellie. She has a cough to get rid of first.

I got her a 2barefeet costume that keeps babies warm so they can stay in longer

  • Hey Yummymummy, we've been taking LO since she was about 5 weeks and she loves it. It says in the big green baby book that you don;t have to wait for first jabs anymore.

Well LO is having her first sleep over at Grandparents tonight. I have a meeting at work tomorrow at 8.45am and there is no way I would have us both ready, down to my parents to drop her off then be back in time for the meeting. I dropped her off earlier and spent about 90 minutes there playing with her. Now I'm home I feel at a loose end and don't know what to do with myself :( I know she will be perfectly fine, but I can't see me getting any sleep tonight :(

    Morning everyone,

How do you know when your lo is ready to drop the night feed? Isabella didn't wake until 0440 and even then she wasn't crying as such, I only lifted her as she was starting to wake dh up. She normally wakes at 0300 but the last couple of nights it has been more like 0400. I'm not sure if this is a one off as she was very unsettled last night and fed more than usual.

We also gave her a dummy last night as she wouldn't settle and she had been fed etc. Felt quite bad but she has started to suck her hands when tired which I don't want to translate into thumb sucking so gave her a dummy.

I'm now going to wake her for her 0700 feed as her routine will be out all day otherwise. I'm not sure she wants it though

I have a question. Im feeding Aaron a mixture of breast milk and formula but im finding the breast milk is leaving him very unsettled. With both milks he will only take about 3 ounce. If I give him a feed of breast milk he wont settle for more than an hour. Im expressing every 3 hours so when he wont settle its hard to stick to this. He's so used to bottles now he wont latch on. I want to continue with the expressing but if he wont settle I dont know if I can.

Gilly this feeding malarkey is nothing but stressful. Absorb the info u get on here and speak to whoever locally can provide you with bf support and then make up your own mind what to do, I think you are probably finding it harder going without family close by. I confess I have been all over the place with feeding still supposed to be breast then bottle and express. I simply have not been able/want to do all 3 every 3-4 hours. At the moment I am bf more and have neglected pumping but frankly I don't care!!!! Too tired!!!! But will probably regret it if milk dries up but figure at least am putting him on so stimulating milk I hope. My nips are on fire though with overuse :0

I am a bit unsure as to why you say he won't settle as well with a bottle if breast milk but I expect if he was able to latch then he would settle quicker as they seem to dose on boob easier. There is no easy answer but I completely understand that if you are making all this effort to get the expressing done but he's more aggravated no wonder you are fed up. I understand that breast milk is more easily digested than formula so perhaps he is still hungry after bm feed.
I think that you will be more stressed with oh at university but you will survive !
Don't feel guilty if you pack in expressing and go formula, it's your choice xx

My hubby had a meltdown this morning due to lack of sleep/ work worries / baby worries/ car worries u name it but pma it will get better....

    Right have rambled enough !

Err one more thing my hubby went back to work last Thursday and the hardest thing was hearing LO cry as had to do things could not hold him solidly if he wanted to be fed! Usually would just pass him to hubby but can't do that when just little old me so be prepared for more screaming but it can't be avoided xx

    2 questions!!

Can I die from over consumption of chocolate? I think that less sleep equals greater consumption

Do I need to swot up on anything as health visitor coming for first visit tomorrow? What will she do?? I am confining Dylan to the garden lol

Carmilla loved ur post about bf !
