I have a question. Im feeding Aaron a mixture of breast milk and formula but im finding the breast milk is leaving him very unsettled. With both milks he will only take about 3 ounce. If I give him a feed of breast milk he wont settle for more than an hour. Im expressing every 3 hours so when he wont settle its hard to stick to this. He's so used to bottles now he wont latch on. I want to continue with the expressing but if he wont settle I dont know if I can.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

i am sorry Gilly i dont know the answers. everyone keeps telling me to give Ellie a bottle of formula before bed so she will sleep longer. dont know whether to try it or not..
another breastfeeding question. my right breast ( the problem boob) wasnt producing much milk so started offering that side first and expressing from that side to increase milk. it is now very sore and feels lumpy. Whats wrong with it and how do i fix it? still feeding from that side with nipple sheild but it hurts:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heartProven to be a little fighter and battling on with her heart condition :j

Sounds like maybe some of the milk ducts on that side are full and not draining as well? Hot conpresses and gently pressing and releasing the lump from outermost edge inwards towards the nipple.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

I know I'm so confused Jen
I don't want to give up the expressing, but it's taking up so much of my time and I feel we're getting very little reward. It's only half an hour every 3 hours, but by the time you add in the sterilising of the equipment etc, especially through the night, I got up twice last night to express, and then had to feed, wind, change him too. I am attempting to get him to latch on every day, but I think he's just really lazy and doesn't want to have to work for the milk.
Edit: would also echo what Kira said about the lumpy bits, I had a few and I had to massage them and heat them up.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Gilly, it may feel like little reward, but every bit of breastmilk you give him will be doing him good, you should be proud of yourself for working so hard at it. Him not settling so long with the breastmilk might just be because it is a different kind of milk to formula, I think frequent feeding is how it goes in the early stages. I spoke to a lady today who said it took her six weeks to make breastfeeding work for her.0

Gilly, maybe look at getting a doidy cup. They are only about 3-4 pounds each. My hv recommended them instead of bottles for giving expressed milk. I have ordered one to try with LO.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

I will have a look. What does it do? I knowIm just imagining OH back at uni on monday and uni and work the next monday, I'm not sure I'd manage to express and be feeding him etc all on my own if he wont settle for more than an hour
I suppose we'l just have to play it by ear. I don't want to give it up but I can't see how to fit it all in.

does anyone have any experience of baby heartburn or reflex? There is something going on with Ellie and i am not sure what it is starting to think it may be reflux. She screams all evening from about 5pm until about 8,9 or 10 pm when she is sick loads her face does red and she scream as it comes up. she also crackles in her chest or somewhere before she is sick. i suffered with acid reflux when pregnant and crackled too. Any ideas? i am coping fine but dont want her in pain if there is something i can do. after she has been sick she feeds fine settles and goes to sleep:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heart

It is just one cup, so easier to sterilise than bottles and supposedly similar to b/f in method of drinking so can help transition between breast and bottle both ways bottle to bf and vice versa.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!
