I can often work out hungry cry from the other complaints, but frankly that may well be because most of her crying is about being hungry! The other regular complaint is when we are changing her as she hates being undressed...

...so she probably shouldn't have produced those two overfull nappies this morning as she's on her third full change of clothes today:rotfl:

Got annoyed with DH and the in-laws last night - trying to get a bedtime routine going even if LO does not understand that yet. So the first night with bath in there too, DH decides that whilst he is getting her undressed, and I am sitting in rapidly cooling water waiting for baby, this is the perfect time to try dressing her up as a jedi. Then at about 9 when baby and I are in bed, we get a text to say MIL is coming over. DH seems to think this is perfectly fine as 'they wouldn't know'. I wouldn't dream of turning up on anyone's doorstep at 9pm without asking, unless it was an emergency, let alone anyone who has a two and a half week old baby :(

Despite the shaky start and me being in a mood we did have a good night with 2/3 hours between hour or so long feed and settling sessions. I hope she keeps that up, but at least we are back at the weekend so DH can take turns with me the next two nights.

I vaguely remember being told something about how long stitches would be there, but it was about 6/7am when I was being taken into surgery having had her at 2.46am and therefore no sleep for a very long time. I know I had a 3rd degree tear and that it is healing okay but I don't know if the stitches are gone yet and I'm not keen on looking or getting DH to! Not sore now, unless I do a lot of walking or the like when it seems a bit heavy in that area if that makes sense.

Despite the essay, forgot to say about dummies.

I didn't plan to use them and didn't buy any before she was born, but after a few bad nights gave in and bought some fairly expensive ones. She spat them straight out. DH then went and bought some tesco value ones and she will suck on them for quite a while if she is in the right mood. It must be something to do with the teat shape.

However boob or daddy's finger seem much better to shut her up!

Re: stitches. I had a second degree spiral tear as well as my episiotomy, 3 weeks ago today exactly. Still can be quite sore some days, depending on if i have done a bit too much. Noone told me how long it would be to heal when i was at the hospital. The m/w checked me at my last appointment, and said they were healing fine, but the stitches were still there, and just told me to keep bathing them, daily if possible.

On another note, blimmin awful timing. Our heating isnt working at the mo, so the house is a little chilly- been pestering DH to get someone out to look at the ancient system. Luckily being a terraced house, with double glazing, it isnt too freezing for LO.
However, just to add to our fun, this morning (after my shower) our hot water tank started leaking, as evidenced by the water dripping through the living room ceiling. Because the heating and water systems are both original (25 years old), it looks like we need a new one of both. Not ideal with a NB in the house and me on mat leave so DH needing to pay for it all himself.

    Hi Ladies,

Finally thought I best get round to joining this thread, I have been reading when I can to keep up to date.

Could somebody please add me to the list, if I do it I will only mess it up! I'm a first time Mum to Poppy Louise who was born on the 24th November 2011, weighing 2lb, she was 3 months early so technically I should now be a big fattie waiting to pop!!

She is still in the SCBU but we are getting close now to leaving. I room in with her and we are just getting her feeding sorted out. The criteria for being discharged is Poppy feeding on demand and gaining weight, she is managing to do both now.

I've found the last few months harder than anything I've experienced before, but my god she is worth it!! Me and hubby are so love with her. :)

I hope to join in more when I get home and in a routine, I do read everyday though and it helps keep me sane during the long days at hospital.

    Take care.

Thanks Kira for adding me! Hope you are getting on OK with Claudia (love that name by btw!)

I'm just home doing Poppy's washing, she poo's for England, mainly when her nappy is off! She also trumps, burps and pulls some lovely faces when pooing - a proper little lady!! :rotfl:

I have given in and given DD a dummy:(been really unsettled this morning, nothing seemed to comfort her so gave her the dummy and she took it. Feel bad now tho.

Also, noticed her cries are different so just trying to figure out what each one means, feel like i should already know.
noticed past two days shes become a dribbley baby

Hey, don't beat yourself up!! We gave LO a dummy when I was BF otherwise she used me as a dummy instead! We still use it now even though we are no longer BF'ing. As already said, it is supposed to help prevent SIDS, so in my eyes it's a positive!

I can distinguish Katie's tired cry, but that is because it is so distinctive, and she rubs the back of her head at the same time. The other day she was rubbing the back of her head and pulled her own hair :rotfl: All her other cries sound the same though so it is a process of elimination.

I have heard the halifax savers are good too

That's the account we are opening for LO, we have an appointment next week.

I have a dark secret  I can now share as its mentioned in the baby week by week book as ok on cool setting.... I hairdry Scott to dry him and stop him wailing when changing

    What a good idea :D

Poor LO is still unwell after her jabs yesterday, she has vomited all her lunchtime bottle back up, it was ever where, all over LO, me, the sofa and floor. I had planned on going shopping today, OH gave me his credit card to treat myself, but instead I'm vegging on the sofa watching Jeremy Kyle and having cuddles

hi Janine glad to hear that everything is going well with your daughter and you are almost at discharge point :D Please remember to be kind to yourself and to accept any offers of help you receive at least for the first few months of having your precious girl home with you :)
  • Lauralou if baby is settled and content with a dummy, just relax about it. Many babies really need to suck to comfort themselves. You can always take it off him later, at 4 - 6 months when they start shoving everything in the month.
Lirin I had second degree tear but the nice doctor hid my stitches so I couldn't feel them. With my episotomy with DD i could feel the stitches or scars for months. It was nearly 3 months then before I felt normal and found myself forgetting about down there :p But if you are at all worried, go see the GP.
Welcome jenninew! Glad you and Poppy are planning for coming home. You will find things so much easier then!

I was baby swimming again this morning. That's 6 weeks we've been going now and I absolutely love it. Worth every penny!
4 nights in a row now of Daniel sleeping through. Putting him in his own room has definitely done the trick. I'm starting to wonder if I snore or something!
