Thanks for all the feedback on sleeping bags think I will do a trial run with one tomorrow think we have a 2.5 tog from mamas and papas.!
We have a really sticky eye here, yellow goo coming out every hour or so. Seems quite common from what I've read. Been wiping it with tap water and cotton wool but read it needs to be cooled boiled water. What point do I need to do something more about it? See health visitor on Monday, it's definitely gone worse on last 24 hours with top and bottom lid being stuck together. Not too worried as it seems common bit at what point do I need to worry if at all?!0 -

I have a couple of sleeping bags but I haven't used them yet. I'm scared of overheating her, yet I'm not sure she's warm enough.
The advice says the room should be between 18 and 21, ours is generally at 20.4, I have two room thermometers and both agree. However, they also say one layer more than you, and I'm cold all time!! I'd have pyjamas, thick dressing gown and blanket or duvet on me. She has a short sleeve vest and a long sleeve sleepsuit, plus a cellular blanket that she sometimes kicks out. Can I substitute the cellular blanket for the sleeping bag? I'm cold all time, and I keep covering her with the blanket because I worry she'll be cold, but the room is theoretically at the right temperature, and one of the bags I have says that if room temperature is 20-21, only a vest is required, is this right? I'd be freezing if I were in bed just with underwear and duvet, or short sleeve and duvet, so I cannot understand how it will be ok for her when she supposedly should wear a layer more than me!!
The heating works, it's actually all new and has thermostat to keep the same temperature all day, it's always on and as mentioned we have two different room thermometers that agree and say that every room is at about 20-21, Are we just not normal (ae like being not just warm, but almost hot) nd baby is ok? Her chest feels warm but not hot, but never cold. Maybe we just like being warm too much but baby is fine like this? If I try the bags, should I just put her in one layer underneath ? How do you change her nappie? I know they open, but I generally put up her clothes behind her back so I have room to put the new nappie and clean her without soiling the clothes, maybe it's just getting the techniques right? *confused*Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

on the Milton front, I don't like the idea of the chemicals. I think I was a Milton baby though, and was FF throughout too...
She *irons* and has 16 kids? Far too much work. (I don't iron)
My little monster is now 5.1kgs / 11lb4 and the 'newborn' sleeping bag is pretty snug on him now (he was in it last night). Shopping for the next size up begins....
Marta - I think it's safest to have a cold baby than a hot one with the SIDS risk - I thought the temp was 16-18? Where did I get that from? Yes, you can substitute the blanket for the sleeping bag. We're not doing the 'one more layer' rule as our baby seems quite warm compared to us, most of the time he's just in a sleepsuit (no vest) and if he's sleeping he has a blanket too (during the day) or his sleeping bag at night. As for changing, yes, I think it's just technique. I open up the nappy and then clean while it's still there but he's not lying in it (legs held up in the air) then whisk the old one away and put the new one on - you want to avoid the weeing/pooing on the clothes while being changed problem. My boy is pretty good at weeing while being changed... and he has also done the occasional poo! Some sleeping bags open up 'fully' like a book, others have a central zip, the 'fully' open ones will probably be easier for changing her in for you and if they're flexible enough (like my merino one) you could fold it up underneath her while you changed her (wouldn't happen with my cotton one though as that's quite stiff).0 -

I'll try it tonight then. I put the thermometers on the floor, and the temperature down there was 17.5, whilst at waist level (on the tables) was 20, so that might be why I was feeling cold. I've also read that milk spots are produced when baby is too hot, something to do with sweat glands, she used to have them but not any more, so I guess I'm not overheating her either. She's done the wee/poo surprise whilst changing her several times too, I now pur the clean nappy under the old one, so when I remove it I have the other one below to catch any incident, too many tines she weed onthe mat, and because it's waterproof /plastic covered, the wee would create a "lake" and spread all over her clothes! Not fun when you are trying to be quick before a feed!! I usually change her before, instead of afterwards, to give the bottle time to warm up and also because she wakes up during nappy change, and after a good feed she would be "drunk on milk" and fall sleep. I'll have a look at the sizes of my bags, I just assumed it was too early to try, so I need to check again!
By the way, savage, I think you had met the sling group around the area, is that right? Di they rent stretchy wraps to try? There's someone on the buy-swap Facebook group who offered me a trico tel (or something like that) at £25, used. New ones are £45. I tried Slinglady but she's not replyingHer stretchy is £25 new, though. Idk what to do, I really want to try it, my lo gets calmer when held in the chest to chest position and I think I'll need it when DH goes back to work, as I can put her there after a feed before putting her on the moses, she needs to be deep asleep before being put in it, otherwise she would wake up and tire herself out, which usually involves crying, asking for cuddles and chest to chest walk around the flat!! What carrier did you get at the end?

Ha ha Marta - my LO is *covered* in spots so clearly temperature isn't everything - he can't really wear less
I have met the manchester sling library - only the once though although I thnk I will go more often, but the next meeting (with library) is only in 3 weeks and I think you want one before then! This is their collection (no VSL or Tricot Slen though but there are other stretchys) http://manchesterslingmeet.com/the-sling-library/ They do have a non-library meet this coming Friday, perhaps if you email them they'll bring one along to that meet even though it's not normally a library meet?
I have 2 slings/wraps, one a friend made (a ring sling) and a Je Porte mon Bebe (stretchy hybrid). I don't think there's much difference between any of the normal stretchys for newborns really, most of them will do the same thing, some might just work a bit longer with a bigger baby if the material is a bit more robust - so if you want one quickly, any will do I think. Not sure why the sling lady isn't replying to you, perhaps you're caught in her spam filter or perhaps she's been too busy? She is also on FB if you search for Victoria Slinglady if you want to message her that way. I spotted you'd appeared on the FB buying/selling pageI usually wear the ring sling if we're going out as I can breastfeed wearing it where a wrap is a bit more faff at the moment (I'm sure I could get it to work with practise but a screaming baby and boobs on display in public isn't my idea of fun - must really make an effort to wear the wrap more at home and test it out
) The wrap is more comfy to wear though as the weight is better distributed I think. If you're not too keen on the one you've been offered on the FB group for whatever reason there's a bigger sling-specific group on FB - called Slings and Things - FSOT and advice - there will be lots (all second hand though most likely) on sale there too.

OH has suggested asking here... Dewi has a little extra skin in one of his eyes. It's on the outside corner. It's like an eyelid that comes sideways lol! Could this just be to do with birth pressures or is it something I will need to point out to the HV?0

Marta if you're really worrying about what tog grobag to use when - I've got a couple of the spare thermometers that come with the branded grobags that tell you what tog bag to use for the room temperature (I rely on them cos I'm always always always dead nesh myself) - if you want one chuck me a PM and I'll shove one in the post (they're just thin bits of card with a temperature strip printed on).
As for stretchy wraps - the big difference pricewise seems to be the thickness of them really - I've got a Moby which is very very thick (think of a winter jersey dress and it's about that thickness) - it's lovely in the winter, but unuseable in the summer (really didn't think this one through with April babies and it being in black did I) - I think things like the Victoria Slinglady ones tend to be slightly thinner fabric. Usually loads of things like Mobys being sold second-hand as the time frame which you can use them in is limited by the stretch of them... only thing I'd say with the Moby is that I found the instruction manual crap - go on youtube and look up a couple of carries on there - much clearer and better... biggest thing to remember with littlies is that their chin has to be clear of their chest or it can cause problems with their airway so just check that when you put them in a wrap... later on you end up doing things like shoving muslins across your chest wrapped round your bra strap to avoid sweaty chest syndrome and wandering scratchy little fingernails.
Another hideous nightmare woke me from my lie-in this morning... two this week with me waking up in a panic attack - this is not good and does not bode well for me having to come off the anxiety medication probably at the end of this month.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

How do you feel about CBT? Mental health should be taken seriously in pregnancy and if you jump up and down enough, your GP should be able to expedite some sort of alternative treatment. As you say, you can't really keep taking the drugs because it's not good for the baby but to leave you without support is not good either.
