Oh, no offence taken! Every woman is different and my own experience luckily is not the norm! Hopefully things will sort themselves out before you even have to consider formula, missbunbury

Just a couple of newbie questions : do you take your lo to the shower room when you need one and are on your own? Or do you leave.him/her.on the other room and have a very quick shower? Also, what do you do with the baby nails? I filed them a bit yesterday, but I'm not sure that's enough or how often I should do it. I'm scared of using anything but the file!

I either left Charlie in his cot bed with the mobile on, or put him in his chair just outside the shower.

I only ever used a file when he was a newborn, and just filed them so he couldn't scratch himself. I did them i think once a week. They seemed to grow really quickly! Now I use baby clippers for them.

Miss bunbury - so sorry they treated you like that :( I echo what the others have said here about finding a specialist to talk it through with. Don't feel disheartened some people talk carp! Like my midwife who said my milk supply was poor quality! Pah!!

Thanks savage so your little one goes in the sleeping bag ok at that weight ( guessing a similar weight to little miss) ? I think co sleeping would be great but I'm too nervous to try at the moment.!

MArta - nails we bite as per instructions from the midwife, it's not easy but easier after a bath. I rhought this was a mad suggestion but it works so dont blame you if u thibk we are nuts! I leave little miss in the room next to the bathroom in her bouncer when I have a bath, partially because the bathroom is so small And I wouldn't !like her to be in all that steam. Has the quickest bath of my life today As she started screaming the second I got in!!
  • Thanks everyone for the support, I am getting advice from La Leche League and also generally just chilling out and being more mindful about feeding, A has learned to smile today and spent all day showing off her new skill so that has cheered me up massively, there can't be that much of a problem! Spoke to midwife earlier who made noises about a drug to increase milk supply but we have agreed that we will hold off on any decision until next Weds when she gets weighed again. LLL are suggesting the opposite, over forceful letdown so we will try addressing that.

Hi, first baby due in a week so I will be on here asking for advice! I have already learnt a lot just reading back. I was wondering what you all do/did about nappy changing and using cooled boiled water and cotton balls at night? I was thinking of taking the water upstairs in a flask to keep it warm to change baby in the night so I don't have to bring him downstairs and wait for the water to boil and cool? Any advice?

I put Freddie in his cot when I have a shower. When he was little I tried to time it with when he was sleeping but as he's got older I just make sure he's not hungry and stick him in there regardless. If he sleeps, he sleeps. If he plays, he plays. If he grizzles, he grizzles. Every mum learns how to shower quickly :D

Bite or tear nails when they're teeny teeny. After that use baby scissors or baby nail clippers. Bear in mind that you can still do damage with the clippers (I sliced the end off one of Freddie's fingers :D). Nails only need cutting when they're long or ragged. Don't worry about doing it once a week or whatever, just take a look occasionally. If they look long, then cut them. Try doing it when your LO's asleep - much easier. I did it towards the end of a nap so that if I woke him I wasn't too fussed.

Candlewax, I used Pampers Sensitive from day one, I use cotton wool only when cleaning her face or cleaning her tip and toe style. I had no problems.or rash. Mw was ok with that. She did that herself when she came on day one and showed us how to bath her, when she changed the nappy she used the wipes, and she.is the.head midwife of the area, so obviously there are different / conflicting opinions on that.

It's for their backsides which aren't in the least sterile! Warm water straight out of the taps is fine, my lovely. No need to boil water for their botties.

Good luck with the birth and welcome to the thread :)

Ha ha, thanks now you mention it I realise how mad it sounds to use sterile water on a not so sterile area!

Second I got out of hospital and away from the cat-bum mouth-faced battleaxes on the post-natal ward from hell it was babywipes alllllllll the way!

In the hospital (you know, when you're still doing it rigidly by the book trying to be a good girl) I used warm water out of the taps (which was an art form to obtain in its own right) - but stuff boiling water to wipe backsides with - I can find enough more productive things to obsess about!

As for showers - I tend to just time it for when hubby's around - he'll start getting the baby sorted, dressed and fed for the day and we'll swap over after I've had a quick one - helps that she'll feed herself from a bottle so it's pretty much get her dressed, park her in the middle of our bed and she'll drink her morning bottle while we get dressed around her - although her charming habit of laughing at me waddling and wobbling around naked is not very nice at all!
