A does the whole crying-then-farting thing too, it's horrible to see her so sad. I try pedalling her legs as she lies on her back and it sometimes seems to help squeeze out the fart but not always. Mr Bunbury made me laugh the other day, he was talking to his friend who has also just had a baby and they were trading tips, MrB suddenly came out with "I knew you had to burp the baby, but I never knew I would be learning how to fart the baby too!"
I think maybe they get so upset because all these bodily functions are an unpleasant surprise every time they happen.0 -
OH has suggested asking here... Dewi has a little extra skin in one of his eyes. It's on the outside corner. It's like an eyelid that comes sideways lol! Could this just be to do with birth pressures or is it something I will need to point out to the HV?
Bamama- I haven't heard of I before but if I was me I would have a chat with hv x0 -
Morning
Kira - happy 1st birthday cj can't believe she's one !!! :bdaycake:
Marta - I would not use a hot water bottle on baby. Might be worth doing some of the things kira mentions in case not just wind. What about trying another bottle we got on best with avent, Less wind, also which formula are you using we were recommended by a friend aptamil was easier to digest. Also keeping upright for a good period before puttin down, lifting bed up head end with big directory as mentioned before. It may be worth having a chat with your hv as they may be able to give you advice. If oh struggling is he able to sleep in a spare room with ear plugs? Sorry if you have tried all the above.0 -

also she has been sick three times today after feeds which is unlike her, she has only been feeding for about 20 minutes a time and the last time she was sick it looked like all of it came back upshe hasn't done very well with getting her wind up the last day or so either. Hope the sick is normal as there did seem to be quite a bit of it. She seems happy enough and isn't crying for more so I think she is fine. Its such a worry being a mummy isn't it!
We had the gooey eye quite a bit with scott it was pants just kept bathing but it took a while to go, if worried then get it checked we just got told breastmilk or cooled boiled water. It's worrying when they are sick with feeds hope better today0 -
Thanks *Ro*
if I could catch him with his eyes open long enough I'd post a pic XD

Can't remember if it was my sil or hv who mentioned it or someone else on mse/fb (these disturbed nights are really affecting my memory) but wiping baby's eyes with cotton wool and a little breast milk (if you're bfing) can help with gooey eyes. Do as if with cooled boiled water, wiping away from nose in one motion, using cotton wool once.
Not tried it ourselves yet but willing if the situation occurs.Little man arrived 13 Dec 20120 -
Oh, and the same for stuffy nose/congestion. A drop or two of breast milk up the nostrils. Sure that was advice from hv. Little man has been having saline drops so far so maybe we should try this for him.Little man arrived 13 Dec 20120

Savage, not sure why Victoria Slinglady hasn't replied either, I've also messaged her in Facebook, I guess she's on holiday or has a backlog of messages to reply. I'm keen on the one from the Facebook group, I thought it was a bit on the expensive side because it's the same price as a VSL (£25), but second hand. However, if it's in good condition and she can send it quickly, I'll get that one. I'm going to check now eBay as well. I'm waiting for a reply from the owner of the wrap as well. One question unrelated to wraps, have you thought about childcare for when you return to work? Is there anything good around your area? The reason I ask is that I've been asked to supply for my supervisor at uni on a course for three days in May and my lo will be just 5 months. I said yes, but I'm already panicking about having to leave her for a few hours in an unknown nursery. There's one near Piccadilly station that has a discounted price, but I wonder if there's anything even closer to Manchester Uni, or a childminder /babysitter. Just thinking about leaving her with complete strangers is creating anxiety, I guess I'll have to get over that if I plan to return to work eventually but at the moment it feels a crazy thing to do!
My lo had a hell of a day today. She's been unsettled and crying pretty much the whole day, from 9am until 10pm. My DH is getting very low, he feels powerless and is affecting him a lot. I guess it's also the lack of sleep and weird timetables at the moment that contribute to that. The gripe water today did nothing as far as I know. I don't want to keep giving it to her, as she's just over the 4 weeks and it says you should not give it to under 1 month olds. Also, if it worked all time I could justify it but so far worked half of the time. Idk what's going on with her, it feels to me as if it's discomfort from trapped wind and tummy ache, but nothing seemed to work!! Has anyone tried a warm water bottle on their tummy? Can this be done for a minute or two? I don't want to ooverheat her
Sorry to hear your Lo is in such discomfort. We've tried Infacol for little man and it seems to have helped with wind, in addition to sitting upright, moving him in different positions, cycling legs. Did have a baby massage demo at our reunion yesterday and he seemed to release extra with tummy rubs (side-to-side and circular motions).
Thinking about nurseries, does your university have one? Little man is booked in for uni nursery when I return in Sept. Just need to confirm everything when they contact me later in the spring.Little man arrived 13 Dec 20120 -
Marta, it sounds like reflux to me. It doesn't automatically mean she'll be sick. Silent reflux is actually worse as the acid is coming up and burning, and then burning on the way back down. They will eat to cool the burning but the milk comes back up and it's a vicious circle. When A was that age, he'd take 1 oz scream for an hour or two, then an another oz, and then repeat, ALL day. He wouldn't lay flat, he'd only settle on our chest, would grunt, and squirm all the time.
Please go back to your GP, even if she is gaining and not being sick. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
