Hey Aida! (And missbunbury... if I didn't say it before, I meant to :P)

I'm sure Rups will be on here soon. She's home now with a hungry little boy and is still hungry all the time herself XD

Dewi went down sometime before 12 (maybe even 11). Woke at 3.30 for a feed back down after both boobs. woke about 20min ago with a nice full nappy.

Yucky avocado, don't blame him not eating it, ick.

Well night 3 of sleep training and dropping night feeds here. In the cot at 7;30, went off by himself in a few minutes. Grizzled at 10ish but settled himself. Cried at 11:30, gave 3 min boob. Cried when took boob away, but gave a quuick cuddle, said "goodnight, bedtime" and out him back in cot....was asleep in 2 minutes! Slept til 4:20...gave another 3 min feed, same again, crying, but quick (as in about 30 secs) cuddle and back in cot - took about 5 mins for him to nod off. Then we had full on screaming at 6 - tried to settle him but he was having none of it, I thought well he probably is properly hungry by now, so fed him, then slept til 8:45. I feel good about the settling down after only 3 mins, but feel flipping knackered at not sleeping much. Night 4 tonight, still will offer 3 min feeds, then tomorrow is firat night of refusing, eek!

Right must dash off to jump in the shower, elelyn and theo are coming round to play today so I should make the effort to look half presentable!

I've decided to try something similar. There's no way that Freddie can go from boob every two hours to nothing for 12 hours straight despite what the books say about six month olds being able to sleep through the night. TBH, they say 'six month old babies who are on solids don't need a night feed'. He's not on solids. We're starting to wean but the amounts he takes in are minuscule. He's still very much dependent on the boob and to my mind that means he's not ready to drop his night feeds (although I'd love it if he had fewer!).

My plan is to cut one out - the first one on waking after he's gone to bed at about 7pm. There's no way he needs a feed at 8.30pm - I'm happy to let him cry this one out. After that I'll give him boob but limit it to a couple of minutes and make sure he doesn't fall asleep. Always back in the cot awake and even if he grizzles or cries, he's not getting any more. Did this last night and we did have a far better night although he still woke for four feeds. On the plus side he's very good at settling himself even though he goes into his cot awake - that's the main reason why I believe he's genuinely hungry; he can actually settle himself.

  • Hi Aida good to see you here :)

Good luck for your 6 week check miss bunbury, I think all doctors vary but I'm sure they can't do anything without your consent though for me anything resembling a smear won't ever be a worry again after leaving all if my dignity on labour ward :)

We did average last night on sleeping, despite being mostly awake all evening she wouldn't go down After the 10pm feed. She had loads of wind last night - is this a sign of a poor latch in a BF baby?!

Dad took her down until 1am so I had an hours sleep as I felt like my eyes had been poked out with needles at that point, she had a feed at 1am and she eventually settled at 2.45am, much better than previous nights. Woke at 6.15 for a feed then went in her bouncer for two hours and had been fast asleep in her basket for two hours. Feel like we are making baby steps, just starting to dread each night & feel sorry for OH today as he's gone to work at 6am after about two hours sleep :( I just can't work out why she doesn't settle at night.!

The weeks are flying by she is now three weeks old & my tiny baby is growing up way too fast!!

Hope all are well, would be interested to know the answer about wind and BF babies if anyone knows!

6 week check I got asked if I wanted my stitches looked at - declined since I'd had constant examinations with being stuck in hospital with the small sort for so long and I really had had enough of feeling like some kind of medical specimen... was no comeback on me saying no at all.

Baby had a good night's sleep - we had a dog with a dodgy tummy wanting out at 2am, 3am, 4am - hubby has to take her cos I can't handle the stairs easily at all (I have to crawl up them) so I was awake with the battle of wills to see whether he'd crack or the dog would give up first... dog is fine - she just tends to have stomach bugs linger a bit longer than the other dog, plus wakes up with the cold - need to order her some nice pyjamas (yes they do pyjamas for greyhounds) really or put her to bed in her fleece coat. Then I had an awful nightmare and woke up with a full-blown panic attack - the hospital/SS related nightmares are fairly normal, none have rattled me as badly as this one - so spent the rest of the night trying not to go to sleep again.

Possibly, but then three weeks is a classic time for wind and colic to start appearing anyway, regardless of how your baby is fed/poor latch.

TBH, if she has a poor latch, you'd have other, more obvious signs. Agonisingly sore nipples being the main one!

Should I be trying to make the most of the time when Dewi is awake.

He's fed and clean, but wide awake. Is there anything he can "play" with at this age?

He had a good stare at my face and was tracking my phone with his eyes and head.

Ooh, you've made me check. Whilst the hummus I give him doesn't come out as low in salt, it's not high either. (NHS says high is 0.6g or over sodium per 100g, low is 0.1g or less sodium per 100g). The one I give him (Waitrose reduced fat) is 0.4g sodium per 100g.

I guess I won't allow it to comprise the main part of his diet, but I'm not too concerned about the salt level. As you say, I could make my own, but the last time I tried it came out like wallpaper paste (similar taste too :D).

He's had some avocado this morning. Well, sort of. His right ear certainly has.

The homemade wallpaper paste hummous sounds familiar, hence why I haven't yet attempted to make any for my LO!... :o I think I'll just buy some - if it's good enough for George and Freddie, it's good enough for my little lady too :)

I'm sure avocado does wonders for babies' hearing! :p My LO loves it, especially when mixed with banana.

Ha ha ha! How did that work out? ;) My brushing attempts with Freddie's tooth result in my just giving him the toothbrush to chew and hoping for the best.

We still don't have any teeth, but she does have a toothbrush to chew on so that she's getting used to it - I think my approach will be similar to yours! I went to the dentist earlier this week and whilst there asked him about babies' teeth, as I'd read so much conflicting advice. He said to not use any toothpaste at all until they're at least a year and a half, as they'll just think it's food and swallow it - and once they're used to swallowing it, it's difficult to get them to stop. He also said to not bother bringing her to the dentist until she's two and a half/three years old and old enough to understand what's happening (unless of course there's a problem before then). I found that reassuring - I once read somewhere that you should start taking your LO to the dentist as soon as their first tooth appears, which sounded rather extreme!

To be honest, there's not a lot you can do at that age, but my LO loved being walked around the house with us talking to her. Any old nonsense will do - there's the boiler cupboard, oh look there's a squirrel in the garden... they have no idea what you're on about, but like hearing your voice and being held! Do you have a play gym/mat? He'll probably enjoy lying on one and looking at whatever's hanging from it and having a little wriggle, and soon he'll start bashing the toys :) He might also enjoy looking at soft books, especially with black and white pictures as their eyesight is not yet fully developed at that age.

Do you get the free weekly e-mails from Baby Centre? If not, it's worth signing up - you tell them your LO's date of birth and get really useful stuff about what they might be able to do at that stage, including 'two new games to try this week'.

But, having said this, don't feel that you need to stimulate and entertain him all the time. Absolutely everything is new to him, so even things like staring at your face is exciting :) If he's happy to just be for a little while, go and get yourself a cup of tea!
