Hi Aida, I'm another one who was on the pregnancy thread at the same time as you. How's it going? We'll be seeing rups over here soon too I should think!
I'm SHATTERED tonight, but no chance of A sleeping properly now until about three I shouldn't think, does anyone have tips for helping her figure out day and night please? She's six weeks so hopefully it'll improve with time?
Also (this is a minging question about ladybits!) I've got my six week check with doc tomorrow and have been led to believe that because #i had an episiotomy there may be some sort of dreadful medical-dildo shenanigans?! Does anyone have ny info, I am bricking it!?0 -
What about starting a bedtime routine Miss Bunbury? So even around 8 or 9 or whatever time you'd like bedtime to be, whatever you wanna do, whether its massage, into pjs, feed, bed or bath, pjs, feed, bed. Whatever you feel comfortable doing night after night
with dimmed lights, soft voices, sometimes some sort of vocal/noise prompt is good too, so a mobile playing. It won't click right away but don't give up hope after maybe 5 or 6 nights she may start to get that it's bedtime then and time for at least quiet and rest x

So does dentinox colic relief (whatever it's called) work in the same way as infacol but instead you add it to the milk? I'm willing to try that my lo doesn't seem to like the infacol taste very much. I bought gripe water and gave it to her after last feed because she started screaming towards the end. Does it work straight away? Unless there was some random coincidence, she stopped screaming and fell asleep within two minutes or giving it to her. It doesn't smell nice either, I heard Boots own brand had a better taste, I might buy that next time.
I'll be willing to try a bedtime routine too in a few weeks , at the moment I'm not sure how, though. She eats-sleeps-eats-sleeps... She's in sleepsuits the whole day and she's either in the travel cot (living room) or moses (bedroom), so I'm not sure how to do the bath pjs feed bed routine, as the only thing that would b different from the rest of the day is the bath time, is that enough? When do they start to spend more time awake? When do they start to play? We talk to her, give her some tummy time, do massage and bicycles, but it seems to me like little else can be done atm because she sleeps (or screams) when she's not feeding. Sometimes she stares into space but I think it's when she's got wind because she just has this face of "waiting for something to happen" and would not do anything else. She's 4 weeks tomorrow.
I just got up.and got the feed ready because she was stirring and rooting, only to come back with it at the right temperature and find her sleeping. I so envy you all BF mummies!!!! She hasn't even changed the number of feeds since on formula!! Still 9-13 a day!Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Morning :j
Hello aida and congrats !
Missbunbury- I had an episiotomy, doctor at my 6 week check just asked me if I wanted stitches checked (I didn't) I had already had them checked previously by mw but that was only because I asked her to look at them. I think that all drs are different, anyway when the midwife checked me there was no dildo action just a quick peek :D
Marta - cant remember how long it was before Scott was playing but it takes a while before they can see everything properlyI don't have any long bedtime routine but we do dim the lights downstairs a bit before bed time as it helps with sleepiness.
Sunshine - sorry mil is being a pain hun x
Hope everyone ok

She has followed me with her eyes for first time. Daddy had her and I moved to the right, then to the left, then to the right again and she followed me all the time. Before she might follow one way, then when you move again you would find her staring at the infinite and would have lost eye contact. I know it's not a lot but they don't di much at this stage!! Lol She's been smiling for ages, although it's more like "smile training", she would do it when she's content and comfy, but not in response to us, generally in response to a full warm belly!!
And I think that's all, she makes noises but nothing other than grunting, pleasure "hmmm" or "aaaaaaa" (very softly, no proper vowel there). She holds her head for a few seconds but there's some "trembling" up and down, a bit of bouncing. She's very strong though, she'd fight the dressing time and there's no way her foo t goes where you want it to go if she does not cooperate!! So, yep, those are my LO milestones
ok, again, not much, but I get jealous of so many fun things happening in this thread lol!!
I've installed the ibaby app, it's great, it has all I need and it's very intuitive. I added a category for inconsolable crying to see if there's any pattern. Thanks for the recommendation!!!

Katie and Fluff, do you make your own hummous or have you found a shop-bought low/no salt one? I'd like to give my LO some, but haven't yet got around to making any...
Fluff, love the pic
Ooh, you've made me check. Whilst the hummus I give him doesn't come out as low in salt, it's not high either. (NHS says high is 0.6g or over sodium per 100g, low is 0.1g or less sodium per 100g). The one I give him (Waitrose reduced fat) is 0.4g sodium per 100g.
I guess I won't allow it to comprise the main part of his diet, but I'm not too concerned about the salt level. As you say, I could make my own, but the last time I tried it came out like wallpaper paste (similar taste too).
He's had some avocado this morning. Well, sort of. His right ear certainly has."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Ha ha ha! How did that work out?My brushing attempts with Freddie's tooth result in my just giving him the toothbrush to chew and hoping for the best.

When you say she sleeps in the moses basket in the bedroom, what time does she go in it? Early in the evening or when you go to bed? I don't have bath time as part of Freddie's routine partly because his skin's dry and I don't want to bathe him daily and partly (mainly!) because I'm lazy.
But he still has a routine and has had since six weeks old. At bedtime (which for him is around 6.30 - 7) he goes in his cot in the bedroom. If your LO is still only going in her basket when you go to bed, then try putting her in at the start of the evening. Obviously she'll still wake for feeds but the important thing is that she starts going to sleep in a room on her own. Other things that can be part of a routine are a nursery rhyme, repeated words or the same person changing her each evening (my husband always does the last nappy change and into a sleepsuit at the end of the day). It doesn't matter how short the routine is; it can be just a few minutes if that suits you. The important thing is that it's repeated each day.
Four weeks is still early for a routine so don't worry too much. We stumbled upon Freddie's routine accidentally - one evening he got so whingy and just cried and cried that the next night when he started agaain at the same time, I just put him in his cot as an experiment (and because I was exhausted). After fussing for a minute or two he went straight to sleep. Looking back on it, he was telling us he was tired and wanted a quiet, dark room rather than being passed between the two of us as we tried to jiggle him into a better mood.
As for playing, she's still too young. I'd expect her to be perhaps giving the occasional smile and sometimes making eye contact with you/following you with her eyes. Newborns stare at your hairline and mouth a lot too - I used to wonder if Freddie was a bit autistic because he seemed to avoid eye contact"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Yucky avocado, don't blame him not eating it, ick.
Well night 3 of sleep training and dropping night feeds here. In the cot at 7;30, went off by himself in a few minutes. Grizzled at 10ish but settled himself. Cried at 11:30, gave 3 min boob. Cried when took boob away, but gave a quuick cuddle, said "goodnight, bedtime" and out him back in cot....was asleep in 2 minutes! Slept til 4:20...gave another 3 min feed, same again, crying, but quick (as in about 30 secs) cuddle and back in cot - took about 5 mins for him to nod off. Then we had full on screaming at 6 - tried to settle him but he was having none of it, I thought well he probably is properly hungry by now, so fed him, then slept til 8:45. I feel good about the settling down after only 3 mins, but feel flipping knackered at not sleeping much. Night 4 tonight, still will offer 3 min feeds, then tomorrow is firat night of refusing, eek!
Right must dash off to jump in the shower, elelyn and theo are coming round to play today so I should make the effort to look half presentable!0 -
fluff tooth brushing, I opened my.mouth wide and he copied me, and allowed me to do it. I brushed all his gums (thought i might as well while im in there), he just held on to the end of the toothbrush, and occasionally licked it.
Ref day/night confusion, bedtime routine is good (even if you don't see the benefit now, you will do when they are a little older and the routine is already familiar to them). Another thing is afternoon sunlight. Exposure to it helps them figure out the difference. So, even though its hard, chuck baby in the pram, scrape your greasy hair in to a bun so nobody can tell you havent showered in days, and go for a ten min walk round the block. I guarantee it will make you feel good to get out of the house, and will help bubba learn that it's day time.0
