It didn't help she's an ex-racer who was trained to chase small, white, fluffy things and so much of what babies wear is small, white and fluffy. Took a lot of separation, and then having her in the room with a lead and muzzle on, then no muzzle, then trailing the lead so we could grab it if we needed to before she concluded the baby was worthy of a cursory lick (everything gets licked by Nancy - she's the lickiest dog you'll ever meet) and then boring enough for her to go back to sleep and ignore.
We still have issues regarding her thievery - she loves soft toys and soft fluffy things (again, it's quite a typical greyhound thing) so we've got to be careful or coats and teddies start walking across the room onto "her" sofa... but I can live with that. Obviously I'd never trust the pair of 'em unattended in a room with each other - but that goes without saying.
If the taller gate doesn't stop the jumping over - try putting the other gate upside down at the top of the doorframe to make the gap narrow and harder to judge getting a jump through.
The taller gate has worked. Shame he's now whining and barking if left alone - must contact Dog's Trust for help. His distress is getting to meLittle man arrived 13 Dec 20120 -
When they're so little there tummies are the size of there fists, so they will need frequent feeding, he's awake again isn't very helpful. They do tend to sleep on and off pretty much all day and night

And when they get to full-grown male size they'll sleep for longer stretches, wake up for a bacon sandwich and then collapse on their sofa and fall asleep watching the football scores come in all afternoon, then wake up for an evening refuelling stop before zonking back out again - only the portion size, type of food and cost of the toys changes.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Hello all x
Sorry to hear about those who are feeling uncertain with bf and their Los you will get there the first weeks are hard, go with your instincts, we were combo after a rocky bf start so sympathies and lots of lanisoh !
Mlbarret - I look after my mums cairn terrier, with the gate thing it was a pressure one so we simply fixed it higher up the wall but not enough gap for him to get under and not too much a trip hazard.
Dylan was bought just before I found out I was pregnant so has been in the back ground all the way through. He was admittedly neglected a bit attention wise when Scott was tiny but he was ok. We have double doors between our living room and dining room with the gate on half a door. He has a sofa in the dining area and can see me. I have got one of these toys to put treats in

I got it on Amazon when on offer for Xmas and wish I'd got it earlier. You can vary difficulty. I found when Scott was younger it was harder but it does get easier but it's trying to find ways of giving a little attention to them even just sitting in with them for a bit with baby snuggled up to you. We have a bigger garden than mum so that was good and he did spend a lot of time out their in those first weeks but not now as its different as can have him in with us more, sure there are times he just wants to lick him and I could scream! If anyone is able to take the dog out for extra exercise during the day that will help with some of the problems too. I tried to get out with pram when I could as it made it easier for all of us ! This book is very good and helpful thought I would mention it again

Bamama - re your post above, if it was me and I was thinking I don't think he's had enough I would just wake and feed as you can't really over feed if you know what I mean x0

Thanks turtle and Gilly. I think I may be being hard on OH. I haven't said anything to him. He is making food and even put on gloves to make a sandwich for me yesterday... he's vegi and it was filled with chicken and salami
I know they don't come with a manual but why can't someone say change them this often, bath them this often and breastfeeding works like this...
I have loads of frozen milk here, including colostrum. I told OH that we could use up the smaller bottles and he could try cup feeding him. He asked if we could juat stick a teat on the bottle despite me repeatedly saying I don't want to use bottles for the first couple of months. His reply was that teats are the same as my nipple shields.
Oh and a cwtch is a Welsh cuddle0 -
Yea I didn't really think I could get him in a routine. OH seemed to get frustrated with the constant feeding yesterday evening.
I'm so lost
... Your not lost Hun we have all been there. Looking after a baby is one hell of a new job and it takes time to learn the ropes. Go with the flow and when your tired everything seems more out of sorts than it is. Go easy on yourself, oh will adjust to the change of landscape too.0 -
Thanks *Ro*. I was thinking maybe I should try and give him a nudge for another morning feed? He's never turned down some boobie. He's only actually had 3 feeds today! He's lying there hoping for another I think. Sucking his hand lol.0
