Bamama - if you give him that nudge for another feed and he doesn't complain and gets on with the job at hand it's all good :)

And Scott used to suck his hands when he was hungry ! Yeah he deffo needs more than 3 feeds so yes a bit of nudging required, main thing I found was ensuring they were having roughly enough wet/dirty nappies and weight gain etc but yes needs nudging x

How many feeds should he be getting in the day, roughly?

Banama - this nct page has info that may help i cant give you a number http://www.nct.org.uk/parenting/breastfeeding-how-much-how-often

What I mean is your baby is still young so I would expect him to feed more frequently but it may be that you just need to prompt more but the hand sucking is one of the signs that they want some food etc

Hi hon. Sorry not been around much. All babies are different, so it is almost impossible to give a definitive, he should be sleeping x, or feeding y.
That said, and not wanting to scare you, i learnt a hard lesson that babies can sleep through hunger and get dehydrated, which in turn makes them sleepier, and feed less. We didn't find this out, till day 6, when i couldn't rouse CJ long enough for her to feed, and ended up going by blues and two's to hospital followed by the worst 24hours of my life! Not saying that that is what is happening with Dewi- he may very well be a very efficient feeder and a great sleeper, in which case :j you!
I would however, given BF babies do need feeding more often as it is "used up" quicker, be inclined to make sure he feeds at least every 4 hours. At 2 weeks, we were demand feeding, so sometimes it was more often, but we were roughly on every 3 hours by day (no less) and 4 hours by night, apart from during growth spurts when it sometimes went to every hour.

    Hello all x

Sorry to hear about those who are feeling uncertain with bf and their Los you will get there the first weeks are hard, go with your instincts, we were combo after a rocky bf start so sympathies and lots of lanisoh !

Mlbarret - I look after my mums cairn terrier, with the gate thing it was a pressure one so we simply fixed it higher up the wall but not enough gap for him to get under and not too much a trip hazard.
Dylan was bought just before I found out I was pregnant so has been in the back ground all the way through. He was admittedly neglected a bit attention wise when Scott was tiny but he was ok. We have double doors between our living room and dining room with the gate on half a door. He has a sofa in the dining area and can see me. I have got one of these toys to put treats in

I got it on Amazon when on offer for Xmas and wish I'd got it earlier. You can vary difficulty. I found when Scott was younger it was harder but it does get easier but it's trying to find ways of giving a little attention to them even just sitting in with them for a bit with baby snuggled up to you. We have a bigger garden than mum so that was good and he did spend a lot of time out their in those first weeks but not now as its different as can have him in with us more, sure there are times he just wants to lick him and I could scream! If anyone is able to take the dog out for extra exercise during the day that will help with some of the problems too. I tried to get out with pram when I could as it made it easier for all of us ! X

    Thanks :)

I guess he's our original baby and he feels a little put out. I've not picked up a carrier/sling yet but hoping to get one so I can take both out. Finn pulls on the lead so I don't think I'd be able to control the pram as well as the dog x

Banama - your not useless !! Its a learning curve and Scott's nearly one and I'm still on the curve !!
Main thing is you cannot over feed when breast feeding kira's advice about rough number of hours is a good guide as someobe said before their tummys are little and if he give you a cue it's most definately feed time.
