Thanks for that ray of sunshine delain ;)

Quick question - the little man is struggling to do number twos at the moment, his face goes bright red then white - he's clearly putting alt of effort into it but to no avail. Seems to be causing a fair bit of pain too :( is there anything I can give him to help? He already has quite a lot of fruit and I offer him water all the time now. When he does go its never overly hard or dry. Thanks :o

Well the only reason he was crying Katie, as far as I could tell was because I wouldn't pick him up. He didn't cry the whole time, would chat to himself thn cry then chatty then smile at me etc etc. I cracked at 4am and took him to bed with me (and boob). He stopped crying the instant I picked him up. 1-0 Reuben I think!

I'm trying to separate feeding and sleeping, have done so successfully for bed but started yesterday doing that for naps too. It has meant he had 2 less millk feeds yesterday, but didn't eat any more solids than usual. I wonder if he was just hungry last night?

No idea ref pooping Katie, only thing I can think of is a bit of very diluted orange juice (I think it's 1 part orange to 10 parts water?)

Katie try giving him high fibre stuff (weetabix) as well as plenty of fruit (maybe try prunes _pale_) its always a bit of a problem, just as they start eating more, they have more poo and constipation is very common.

Sorry for the ray of sunshine :o can you tell I've got a grumpy 2yr old today :rotfl:

I feel so naughty. I slept last night from about half 1 to 6 ish, fed Dewi who went straight back down. I slept then til 9... fed him at 11 and have been dosing from 12 until now.
  • Another day another new saga here *sigh*....when feeding the baby on one side it feels like needles sticking in, not the whole time just some of the time. Doesn't happen on both sides. Spoke to the midwife who said it could be the latch (I don't think it is as she is pretty good at latching on both sides) or thrush :( she doesn't have white spots in her mouth and there is no sign of anything on my breast. Anyone experienced this? Really hoping it isn't thrush but as I'm on antibiotics it is a real possibility.

turtlemoose - your post about Reuben being awake 1-4 and being unusual gives me hope that one day we might sleep a reasonable length of time without being woken up and consider 3 hours awake as unusual :) I know it doesn't help you but it made me feel better :) !!

Anyone had issues with failure to thrive.?
My son is almost 9 weeks old. Was born dramatically, unplanned home birth, unknown footling breech. Hes had seizures due to a bleed on the brain. Also was admitted to hospital at 1 and a half weeks as lost 10% body weight. Now all the bleed issues aside hes never been a good feeder. We have been through every bottle. We found hospital teats work best but they wont let us have any and the ones i have are now clouding. He takes 50-70ml per feed 8 times a day.

Was born 6lb 13oz. Yesterday at 8wk4day he was 7lb 8oz. (Admittedly after a two day vomitting bug). We are seeing a feeding specialist next week but im at the end of my rope.

Anyone been through this at all know what i can demand or request. All they keep doing is threatening tube feeding again but surely they need to actually help long term feeding.

    Hi

I have a baby that is classed as 'failing to thrive.; Hate that saying, always makes me feel like a failure! My Daughter was born at 27 weeks and weighed 1lb 15oz at birth, she dropped down to 1lb 8oz in the following days and now at 13 months weighs 15lb 5oz and we see a dietitian every month who keeps a close eye on her. He has prescribed a special build up milk (Infatrini) which she has during the day and her last and first feed of the day is from the breast. She is still very underweight, but she is in proportion and is just a small girl. She isn't skinny, she just looks like a much younger baby.

Our hospital used NUK bottles in the NICU and I have to use these bottle for my Daughter, she won't drink from anything else. I've found the silicone teat much better than the latex teat, I couldn't find them in the shops and had to order them online from here:

    http://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/nuk-first-choice-silicone-teat--size-2--medium-feed-hole-p4352.html

Maybe they will be worth a shot. I know the panic off weighing in time and praying that Poppy has put on weight. Hopefully you can get some answers from the feeding specialists next week.

    Good luck.

Oh my god Reuben kept me up from 1 until 4.... !!!!!!?! They aren't supposed to do this when they're bigger :( I'm like a zombie today, good job he is being particularly smily, giggly and generally rather cute....otherwise he might no have made it through the day lol

Heck I know the feeling Turtle! Poppy was awake the same time as Reuben, feeling knackered now! You forget how hard it is to be sleep deprived! For the past few nights she has gone to bed as normal at 7.00pm but then wakes up at 9.00pm wide awake! I'm going to try reducing her naps in the day to see if that helps - I need my sleep!!

Thanks turtle and delain - will see about some prunes and oj. I read somewhere last week that weetabix can be a cause of constipation?! I've been restricting how often he has it as I thought that was causing it? It's his favourite breakfast though so I know what he's having tomorrow :D

How many feeds is R on now then turtle? Since you mentioned it yesterday I've kept a note today of when I feed him and so far he's had 4 (not including 2 in the early hours). I've only fed him when he asks for it, don't know when it's time to reduce milk in the hope of getting him to eat more solids? Or will he drop the milk himself when hes rready...? I swear just when I think I'm getting to grips with everything he grows up a bit and it all changes!

I've never heard of it causing constipation before... And ive had doctors recommend it when squeak (now 2!) got blocked up, also bran flakes and fruit & fibre which she still.eats now.

Hugs to those of you with little babies :grouphug: mine have all been big for dates including the twins so can't imagine what you must be going through.

There is a girl in twin1's class who was born at 28 weeks ish, and she's a lovely perfectly normal little girl, so it will get easier!

Katie he had 5 yesterday, and today we are on 4am (eek) 8:30, 10:30 (this one was accidental, I fell asleep and he helped himself - tis what happens when we cosleep, my fault for not getting out of bed!), 14:00 so that's 4 feeds so far. He has eaten cucumber and some rice cake. Small amounts of both. Dinner will be mashed potato (with full fat milk and cheese in), homemade burgers and green beans. I expect him to gum the fleshy bit out of probably 3 beans, lick the burger and chuck it, and eat 3 teaspoons of mash, and play with the rest. He will then have boob at 7:15 ish as bedtime feed, then if a normal night (please please!) that will be feed at midnight ish and 430-5ish. So in a full 24 hrs that'll be 6 as the last one will be the second 24hrs iyswim.

I don't mind feeding him if he's actually hungry, but I am finding that missing the feed because it's not nap time doesn't seem to be bothering him - so I'm going to keep it up! there have been a couple of points today where I've picked him up and he out his open mouth on my boob (one of his feed me signs!) usually I would immediately, but instead I have waited and he didn't do it again, so I think it was just cuz it was right there, habit not hunger.

Alamaya I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but didn't want to ignore your post. I hope you find the help you need.
