Anyone had issues with failure to thrive.?
My son is almost 9 weeks old. Was born dramatically, unplanned home birth, unknown footling breech. Hes had seizures due to a bleed on the brain. Also was admitted to hospital at 1 and a half weeks as lost 10% body weight. Now all the bleed issues aside hes never been a good feeder. We have been through every bottle. We found hospital teats work best but they wont let us have any and the ones i have are now clouding. He takes 50-70ml per feed 8 times a day.
Was born 6lb 13oz. Yesterday at 8wk4day he was 7lb 8oz. (Admittedly after a two day vomitting bug). We are seeing a feeding specialist next week but im at the end of my rope.
Anyone been through this at all know what i can demand or request. All they keep doing is threatening tube feeding again but surely they need to actually help long term feeding.Baby Girl Born May 2011Baby Boy Born Nov 2012

Marta, I have the book as the hospital gave me one. Not got around to reading it. They let Dewi get 5 hours one night in the hospital. He went down for 7 last night... I woke and realised the time, decided it was best to get him up. Changed and fed. He went back down after stirring a little in bed and is still there now. Hoping he'll make up for it with extra day feeds?
Alamaya, I met you briefly in the other thread. Sorry to hear about everything that happened after the birth. Dewi has also had seizures but only over one nifty. He is on meds at home now, once a day. We don't know what caused them but his MRI had some "blips". I can't suggest much in terms of feeding as Dewi is a boobie boy. can you not ask the hospital what they are using? Perhaps your gp could give trembling to you on precription or something. Have a chat with your midwife...?
He still seems to be a good weight though. Just see what the specislist says. I know how frustrating it is, we spent 9 days in after the fits just waiting to come home!0 -
Bamama Sorry to hear you have had issues aswell.
Matts seizures they think were directly linked to the bleeds. He had one dose of meds in hospital of phenobarbetone and luckily not had any since with no further meds.
With regards to feeding we are seeing a feeding specialist next week. They mention high cal formula etc but never actually give it me. With regards to the hospital teats they are disposables that are by a company called sterifeed. But at £30 for 100 no one will prescribe them and no bottle i have brought from shop has even come close.

With regards to feed times i have been told as long as they are past birth weight and gaining well you can leave them as long as they want.
Otherwise its 3-4 hours feeds even if you have to wake them and believe me that aint easy xxBaby Girl Born May 2011Baby Boy Born Nov 2012

We're on the phenobarb at home. Got a long (6 week) wait before we see the neuro consultant
we haven't really been told what it is/what caused it/if he'll need to stay on meds.
That's blooming expensive for teats! Hope the specialist can sort you out.
Feel bad for waking Dewi last night now. But he did have a good feed so... suppose he didn't mind0 -
Oh my god Reuben kept me up from 1 until 4.... !!!!!!?! They aren't supposed to do this when they're bigger
I'm like a zombie today, good job he is being particularly smily, giggly and generally rather cute....otherwise he might no have made it through the day lol

Just wait until they are all 2 and dropping their sleeps... Then they doze off at 4pm for an hour and will be charging about until midnight
and if they do stay awake and are in bed at a reasonable hour they will have been utterly miserable since about 2pm!
I made a huge cake for chuckles' birthday, gooey sticky chocolate oneare we still doing weigh ins on here? I need motivating!
