Hi DDB :) glad to hear you are now enjoying breastfeeding. My Dewi came on Christmas day. Currently still in hospital but will explain all when we're home and I can get on the pc.

I wanted to ask about birth weights, head size and tears? Dewi was 7lb8, 35cm and I have 3rd degree labial tears. My lord it burns to pee! I never thought a baby that size wpuld damage me so badly.

They never go into the painful details of after giving birth!

Glad things are going better for you hun x

9lb4, don't know head size, 3rd/4th degree tear but not to my labia I don't think - he was back2back with forceps and came out the wrong way anyway (facing up). Doesn't hurt to pee (or at all now to be honest). Make sure you're drinking enough as you need more fluid to bf and it might keep your wee a bit less acidic

I had no pain - but they kept me on that awful maternity ward for 2 weeks while she figured out the food thing - and if you stood still for more than 2 seconds someone would come by and try to give you painkillers - which I took up gleefully for the first few days!

I was quite surprised by how often they offered painkillers while on the ward - not sure what the other ladies were getting but I was on some heavier ones due to the tear - this after the NHS antenatal at the hospital said that they discharge you with no painkillers at all so make sure you have paracetamol at home! I was discharged with the ones they'd given me on the ward.
  • I wasn't given painkillers, just discharged with antibs for mastitis!

Congrats bamama and moneypenny21. My medela shields saved breastfeeding for me in the beginning and I was off them by week 3 after a few frustrating attempts. Hope 2013 Is going well for everyone. When do you think you can go home then bamama? Xx

I found they very much had the attitude that I was in there so they'd better find SOME tablets to give me to justify their existence or something! After 2 weeks of it, and only pretty much being kept in for the baby's sake - it got very very wearing to be constantly offered drugs every 5 minutes (hell if I want to be offered drugs that often I can go walking through certain areas of town)!

Midwife tomorrow - have the feeling that all (physically) is well - but getting loads more nightmares over the crap the hospital pulled last time and bad dreams of social services coming back and taking her away from us - and I'm pretty wrecked in that regard... dunno if it's been the New Year and the tendency to look back rattling me, or hitting the 24 week point this time around, or just the fact that every bloody TV show's had either births/social workers or what-not on or what but I'm NOT in a good way (and I need to come off these anxiety bills by about 30 weeks - and I'd like them to be clear of my system before 33 weeks obviously since last time) and have spent lots of the last 3-4 days crying over it... dunno how strongly to voice it to the midwife (who'll just be her usual relentlessly positive self) for fear of getting labelled a raging fruit bat justifying a phone call to social services! (and yes I know some of it is paranoia - but it's paranoia grounded in what happened last time)... add in flashbacks over the whole delivery last time (it's been the theatre bit playing over this week - the other week it was the waters going and talk from the neo-natal docs so at least we get some variety in the flashbacks I guess) and it's not being fun at the moment.

On the plus point - after months of trying - she finally rolled back to front... once... no progress on crawling... no progress on teeth... fretting about how she's going to get labelled regarding milestones (or millstones as I tend to think of them sometimes) with her 9 month check that the phone will go for any time in the next few weeks - again (back to the SS and people meddling/scrutinising us thing) I really fear her being labelled as "delayed" (yes they're weighing her up against 9 month old checklists when she was prem and it's not bloody fair!) and it triggering extra agencies having an interest in us, or the health visitors watching us more closely (although to be fair - our named health visitor is very much of the "if I've got a problem with you I'll flipping well tell you before I go making phonecalls" type... unlike the idiotic PND obsessed one - despite the doctor confirming I do NOT have that - one Erin's peed on twice :D) or whatever - that'll just about finish me off at the moment.

Lose the local bus service this month as well which is going to make me more isolated with SPD and being unable to walk far until this one comes.

Hi all - Happy New Year to you and your babies! And a warm welcome to the new ladies and congratulations on the birth of your little ones.

Sorry to hear some of you have been having some issues with feeding. I haven't been able to offer any advice as we are on formula here but there are some very knowledgable ladies on this thread. Reading all your stories has brought back some guilty feelings for me over not perservering more with bf-ing I have to admit :-(. Trying not to let those feelings take over again though as ultimately I did the right thing for us and Theo is thriving.

We had a lovely Christmas. Theo got given soooo much stuff. It's like a toy shop in our house now. We've had to put some of it away to be got out again later in the year. He seems to like his jumperoo - although he can't bounce yet he's quite happy to be in it and looking at the toys. We also bought him a Bumbo seat the other day but I'm taking it back as he's such a chunky monkey he doesn't fit in it! It's a shame as he loves to sit up but can't support himself yet.

He's also been doing some new stuff lately which has been brilliant to watch. He's been blowing raspberries and has managed to roll onto his side a couple of times. And licking - his fist, my shoulder, muslins - he doesn't stop licking things! I really think he's starting with teething though as he keeps getting bright red cheeks and the amount of dribble that comes out of him is immense!

Third set of jabs tomorrow - not looking forward to that :-(

Oh Dizzi, you poor thing. It sounds like you are having a really rough time of it. I had flashbacks after Theo's birth (shock of a quick labour and delivery I think) and it was horrible but they only lasted a couple of days. It must be awful for you to be getting them now. I don't really know what to say apart from I would definitely tell the midwife how you are feeling and make sure she listens. I'm sure you won't be labelled as a fruit bat and I think it's important to be honest about your feelings. Huge hugs to you.

Bamama- glad your shields worked! Fingers crossed babs is home soon!

Gilly- yay for the walking baby!! :)!

We are going for night two of sleep hopefully. Little miss has been awake a lot today but is very snoozy now!!

Can't help about tears as I got fully dilated pushed & her head wouldn't move down so they did a section. It's just pain in a different places to tears I guess! It could have been worse as the midwife said I could have had a tear and a section stitches to contend with! I got morphine for the night of the section and then codeine and paracetamol but gave up the codeine as they couldn't decide if it was ok to breast feed or not with it so just stuck with paracetamol. to be honest it's been tender but not pain like when I had an abcess ony tooth where I'd have begged for a General to take away the pain!!!
  • Hello Ladies :)

I havent been about much lately, I have been reading but just never got round to posting.

Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and New Yr? Aiden has loved it, I am gutted to be back at work tomorow as we have loved being off with him :(

He has his 9 month check on Thursday so I do get to leave work at lunctime which is nice :j

Re tears etc, I am not sure if I tore - but I had to be cut so had stitches. Just after having him I had a pessary painkiller and afterwars on the TCW I wasn't offered anything unless you asked for it. I took paracetomal and ibruprofen when I got home.

Here is Aiden's nursery photo - sorry its so big. And his new trick he has learnt!
